roadway Interiors introduces
Indi 16, a vibrant Indian
tapas and shisha lounge
at CityMax Business Bay,
blending bold Indian
flavours with contemporary
design to create a dynamic
and immersive dining
experience.
A 5,300 sqft lounge at
CityMax Business Bay, Indi
16 combines sleek interiors with a 99-seat indoor
area and a 72-seat outdoor terrace, offering a
modern take on cultural design with views of the
Dubai skyline
Broadway Interiors, renowned for its edgy and
bold designs in restaurants and nightclubs, has
recently completed the interiors for Indi 16—a
vibrant Indian tapas and shisha lounge located
on the 16th floor of CityMax Business Bay.
Indi 16 represents a perfect fusion of cultural
inspiration and modern elegance. Situated within
a business hotel, the venue caters to a diverse
clientele, including business travellers, local
residents, and international visitors. This project
also marks the beginning of a strong partnership
between Broadway Interiors and CityMax Hotels,
for which they recently completed two High-So
nightclubs. As a result, Indi 16 offers a fresh and
exciting destination for those seeking a unique
dining experience in Dubai.
Chris Barnes, owner and founder of Broadway
Interiors, explains the overall design concept:
“Indi 16 was about creating a space that reflects
the richness of Indian culture while providing
a modern environment that would appeal to
both locals and the international audience Dubai
attracts. We wanted to create an experience that
connects tradition with contemporary aesthetics,
offering guests an inviting space.”
The journey to creating Indi 16 wasn’t without
challenges. The project required navigating
municipal approvals to increase the gross floor
area (GFA) of the hotel. Once the green light
was received, Broadway Interiors was tasked
with transforming a complex space—50% of
which was located outdoors with no windows or
mechanical services—into a functional interior.
The venue’s name, Indi 16, draws its inspiration
from Indian cuisine and its location on the 16th
floor of the hotel. The overall design is divided
into two distinct experiences: the indoor space
features a more intimate atmosphere, influenced
by the limited natural daylight, while the shisha
terrace embraces panoramic views of the Dubai
skyline.

aughtOne, part of the
MillerKnoll collective,
debuts Truffle pouf, a
cheeky yet practical seat
and footrest. Truffle pouf
brings a playful energy
wherever it pops up.
Intentionally organic in form, its curvaceous
profile charms from all sides, while the
seamless top offers a smooth, durable seat.
With two sizes, 605 wide x 400 high (A) and
475 mm wide by 445 mm high (B), Truffle
supports both agile working and lounge uses.
Version A’s wide seat and lower sit invites
lounging.
Version B’s taller work height encourages a
more upright sit. Both create agile hotspots
for connection and collaboration.
Truffle’s solid Bio-Pur® foam construction
features a firm inner core for stability and a
softer outer layer for comfort. Bio-Pur® foam
uses fewer fossil fuels than conventional
foams by incorporating vegetable oils and
other organic waste into the production
process. It is an innovative solution that can be
easily implemented in existing manufacturing
processes. The use of Bio-Pur® foam is part
of NaughtOne’s strategic goal to reduce the
amount of fossil fuel-based materials in its
products.
NaughtOne prides itself on its expertise
in upholstery. Truffle’s clever one-piece
upholstery creates a seamless waterfall edge
that accentuates Truffle’s organic form,
reveals curves on curves with the play of light,
and creates surprising contrasts along the
seams.
As always with NaughtOne, possibility is
everything. Specifiers can let their imagination
run free by adapting Truffle’s character
with their fabric choices. Create hotspots
with bright colour pops, make a statement
with patterns, or blend in with cool neutrals.
Whether standing solo or mixed and matched
in clusters, Truffle makes itself at home
wherever you pull it up.

xhibition
design is
an art and
science
that
combines
space,
technol-
ogy, and
storytelling to create immer-
sive experiences. In the UAE,
a country known for pushing
the boundaries of architecture,
culture, and innovation, exhibi-
tion design holds vast potential.
From world-renowned events
like Expo 2020 Dubai to the ev-
er-growing demand for cultural,
trade, and industry-specific exhi-
bitions, the UAE has established
itself as a key player in this field.
The UAE hosts a vibrant calendar
of events throughout the year,
attracting thousands of visitors
annually. For instance, Global
Village is a major highlight, while
permanent exhibition venues
like the Abu Dhabi National
Exhibition Centre, Dubai World
Trade Centre, and Expo Centre
Sharjah play a central role in
hosting a wide range of events.
The country is also renowned
for its global arts and culture
events, supported by the Minis-
try of Culture and Youth, which
promotes the UAE's cultural
sector. Additionally, the UAE
hosts high-profile international
sports and leisure competitions,
offering substantial prize money.
As a major hub for trade shows,
conferences, and exhibitions, the
country continues to strengthen
its position as a global center for
events and tourism.
As the region continues to
evolve as a global hub for tour-
ism, trade, and creativity, the
future of exhibition design here
is bright and full of possibilities.
Exhibitions in the UAE serve
multiple purposes, cultural
expression, business promo-
tion, and knowledge exchange.
Exhibition design enhances these
experiences by crafting envi-
ronments that engage visitors,
inspire interaction, and facilitate
communication. Whether it's
a museum exhibit, trade show
booth, or immersive experience
in a public space, thoughtful
design maximises the impact of
the content on display. The focus
on cutting-edge technology, sus-
tainability, and cultural identity
aligns with the UAE’s long-term
vision of becoming a knowl-
edge-based economy. As a result,
exhibition spaces across the
country are becoming more inno-
vative and ambitious, incorporat-
ing elements like virtual reality
(VR), augmented reality (AR),
and interactive installations that
enhance user experience.
Exhibition design in the UAE
thrives on several key elements
that define its success. A strong
narrative and thematic unity are
crucial, with exhibitions needing
to tell stories that resonate with
diverse audiences. Designers of-
ten navigate the balance between
traditional cultural symbols
and modern concepts, as seen in
places like the Louvre Abu Dhabi
or Expo 2020 Dubai. Advanced
technology, including VR, AR,
and projection mapping, plays a
key role in deepening visitor en-
gagement, making it a distinctive
feature of exhibitions in the UAE.
Sustainability is another priority,
with eco-conscious materials
and adaptable designs being
embraced to reduce environmen-
tal impact, as demonstrated by
projects like Masdar City and the
Sharjah Art Foundation. Al Seef
Dubai is also an example of pop-
up installations that seamlessly
blend heritage and culture with
contemporary spaces. Addition-
ally, well-planned spatial design
and flow are essential to crafting
an intuitive and immersive
visitor experience, whether in
small galleries or expansive
open-air spaces, ensuring the user
experience remains at the heart of
exhibition design in the region.
The significant growth of the ex-
hibition design industry presents
exciting career opportunities for
aspiring designers, especially those
eager to blend technology, culture,
and creativity. As demand for
skilled professionals rises, design-
ers can explore diverse roles across
sectors such as cultural institu-
tions, museums, corporate events,
and cutting-edge, tech-driven
installations.
Exhibition designers create
spaces and layouts for a wide range
of events, both temporary and
permanent, including exhibitions,
museums, art installations, fairs,
stands, shops, window displays,
and even virtual environments.
Aesthetics and narrative play key
roles in their work, allowing for
experimentation and innovation,
particularly in the creation of im-
mersive, experiential spaces. Ex-
hibit designers translate commer-
cial stories into spatial and visual
forms, using design methodologies
tailored to exhibition environ-
ments while incorporating their
own creative interpretations to
meet the project's communicative
and narrative goals. They collabo-
rate with a range of professionals,
such as curators, artists, brand
managers, lighting designers,
directors, digital creators, graphic
designers, and videographers.
Whether working in design studios
or as freelancers, exhibit designers
manage and coordinate all aspects
of an exhibition’s design, from
conception to realisation.
With the UAE emerging as a glob-
al center for exhibitions, the future
of exhibition design holds great
promise, offering endless opportu-
nities for creativity and influence.
Designers who can efficiently
combine innovation with practical
solutions, while highlighting the
UAE’s distinct identity, will thrive
in this exciting field.

STEFAN SCHMIED, Leader at LIXIL International, IMEA, shares
insights on GROHE's first Saudi manufacturing facility, aligning
with Vision 2030 to boost local production, sustainability, and
innovation. He highlights the blend of German quality with Saudi
talent, driven by cutting-edge technology and automation.
W
hat inspired the decision to open the first-ever GROHE manufacturing
facility in Saudi Arabia, and how does this align with GROHE's global
strategy?
By establishing manufacturing facilities in KSA, we aim to
strengthen the local production capabilities, thereby support-
ing the development of a robust manufacturing sector. It is
evident that this initiative is part of our commitment to support
Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 objectives of economic diversifica-
tion and sustainability.
Local production aligns with the broader goal of developing non-oil industries. This collab-
oration was sparked by the shared vision of Zamil Plastic Industries Co. and GROHE brand to
develop local industry by localising unique sectors. This partnership will undoubtedly pave the
way for similar industries to follow.

presence in the region,
reinforcing our com-
mitment to delivering
quality products across
Saudi Arabia.
How does GROHE plan to
celebrate and promote the
combination of German
quality with Saudi talent in
its marketing and product
offerings?
Our Saudi-made Con-
cealed Cisterns maintain
the core GROHE brand
values of quality, technol-
ogy, design, and sustaina-
bility. This commitment
ensures that, even as we
localise production, we
maintain the high stand-
ards that define GROHE
globally. By integrating
these values into our
Saudi-made offerings,
we continue to deliver
exceptional products that
resonate with both our
customers and our com-
mitment to excellence.
What cutting-edge technol-
ogies and innovations are
being implemented in the
GROHE manufacturing fa-
cility to ensure high-quality
production standards?
GROHE's concealed cis-
terns are designed with
advanced water-saving
technology, ensuring that
you can flush the toilet
effectively while using
significantly less water.
These products adhere to
stringent environmental
standards, including
those set by the Water Ef-
ficiency Labeling Scheme
(WELS) and LEED cer-
tifications. By allowing
users to choose between
different flush volumes,
GROHE concealed
cisterns contribute to
eco-friendly practices
by minimizing water
waste, making them a key
component in sustaina-
ble building designs. This
commitment to water
conservation not only
supports environmental
preservation but also
helps reduce utility costs
for consumers.
The cistern is the heart
of any concealed system
for WCs, in drywall and
solid constructions.
GROHE has experience
in the production of Con-
cealed Cistern for more
than 50 years. This leads
to more than 25 Million
cisterns installed world-
wide. GROHE concealed
products generally come
with a 10-year warranty.
Replacement parts are
available for a full 15
years for our concealed
WC cisterns. GROHE
concealed cisterns are
featured with Dual-flush
technology, which allows
the user to select the
required volume and
thereby saving water.
The GROHE concealed
cistern is characterised
by rapid installation and
universal connection op-
tions. Another important
installation advantage
that delivers clear time
savings is the fastening
technology of the retain-
ing frame for mounting
the flush plate directly
on the cistern. Last but
not least GROHE offers
the perfect match with
all touchpoints in the
bathroom. It is the only
company in the indus-
try that can offer a true
freedom of choice with
a 100% perfect match in
colour, design and size.
What role does automation
and digitalisation play in the
factory's operations, and
how does it contribute to
efficiency and precision in
production?
We are manufacturing
Concealed Cistern in Za-
mil Plastic Industries Co.
factory. Which is known
for being a business
group engaged in the de-
velopment of innovative
design and engineering
solutions for use in the
construction industry
using GROHE German
expertise. We are happy
to work with an institute
that is recognised for its
efforts in sustainability,
social responsibility,
operational excellence,
innovation, and work-
place balance.
"Our Saudi-made Concealed Cisterns maintain
the core GROHE brand values of quality, technology,
design, and sustainability. This commitment ensures
that, even as we localise production, we maintain the
high standards that define GROHE globally."
This partnership emerged from
the mutual vision of Zamil Plastic
Industries Co. and GROHE to cultivate
the local industry through the
localisation of specialised sectors.

es enriched his architectural perspective,
emphasizing the importance of context
and cultural identity in design. Martin's
projects consistently showcased his
ability to create "living structures," build-
ings that enhance the daily lives of their
inhabitants.
By 2005, Martin had moved to Dubai,
where he conceptualized the iconic

new technologies and design
tools.
Martin’s extensive travels and
deep interest in urbanism signif-
icantly shape his architectural
approach. He views each project
as a chance to infuse a sense of
place into the community. This
philosophy is reflected in his
work on prestigious hospitality
projects in Saudi Arabia, including
the newly opened Six Senses
and Four Seasons resorts at
Amaala Triple Bay on the Red Sea,
developed by Red Sea Global. His
designs focus on crafting spaces
that are both functional and
enriching, aiming to inspire and
enhance the user experience.
His professional journey is

ecognised as one of the
region's leading designers
and architects, Bruno
Guélaff’s expertise ex-
tends across architecture,
interior design, master
planning, and furniture
design, leaving a signifi-
cant impact on each field. Born in New York City
to French parents, Bruno's educational journey
began at the Lycée Français de New York and
evolved into a deep design exploration. Initially
unsure of his path, his studies in sociology
did not reveal his passion until later at the
New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). It
was there that his design identity took shape,
solidified by his receipt of the prestigious B.F.A.
Travel Prize, allowing him to travel the world,
visiting over 22 cities across 15 countries.
This globe-trotting experience became a rich
source of inspiration, influencing the multicul-
tural layers in his work today.
In 2008, Guélaff returned to Dubai, where he
established his boutique firm, studio bruno gue-
laff, under the umbrella of BG Group.
Over the last 15 years, his vision has propelled
the company to become one of the most
sought-after design firms in the region. Known
for pushing the boundaries of design and
architecture, Bruno's work is defined by its flu-
idity—ensuring that all design elements, from
landscape to interiors, are woven seamlessly
into a cohesive narrative. As Bruno puts it:
“Designing is about more than just the physical
space; it’s about crafting an emotional experi-
ence for those who live within it.”
In 2024, Bruno’s dedication to design was

the Year at the Architecture Leaders Awards.
Reflecting on this achievement, Bruno
stated: “I am deeply honored and humbled
by this recognition. It serves as validation for
the dedication my team and I put into every
project. Designing spaces where our clients
live is a privilege, knowing that our work
impacts their daily lives in meaningful ways.
This motivates me to push the boundaries of
modern design even further.”
His holistic approach to design—one that
integrates not just the physical, but the
emotional and cultural dimensions of living—
has set him apart in the industry. Bruno em-
phasizes the importance of understanding
his clients' backgrounds, how they interact
with their environments, and translating that
understanding into personalized architec-
tural solutions. “It is my privilege to design
a true home for each of our patrons, one
that reflects their cultural identities, their
relationships, and their values,” he says.
This philosophy has not only influenced
his designs but has also reshaped the way
his company approaches construction. After
identifying inefficiencies in the traditional
project process, Bruno realized that design
should not stop at conceptualization but
extend into execution. This led to the for-
mation of BG Villas, a partnership between
Bruno and construction expert Khalid Kaluti.
Together, they have created a design + build
company that merges cutting-edge design
with high-quality construction for an all-in-
clusive, transparent client experience.
The success of BG is visible across
Dubai, where luxury residential
projects are in full swing from Dubai
Hills to Pearl Jumeirah. The firm is
now looking forward to expanding
its scope with branded boutique
developments, including an ambitious
96-story tower facing the iconic
Burj Khalifa, which is currently in the
design phase.
One of our current projects is the
BG LUX Villa, a true gem located in
the heart of Pearl Jumeirah, Dubai.
This four-level villa is a stunning blend
of minimalism and glamour, offering
24,000sqft. of usable space. The villa
features a range of luxurious amenities,
including a cold plunge pool, a spa, a bou-
tique-style gym, and a multi-level cinema.
Its fully functional roof terrace offers
breathtaking panoramic views of Dubai,
creating the perfect setting for relaxation.
The villa's meticulously curated finishes
will captivate the future homeowner,
ensuring a living experience that embod-
ies modernism, comfort, and elegance.
Every detail, from the architecture to the
interior design, reflects a commitment to
creating a space that is both aestheti-
cally pleasing and functional, making the
BG LUX Villa a standout masterpiece in
Dubai’s luxury real estate market.
As Bruno and his partners at BG Group
continue to redefine the standards of de-
sign + build, they are setting new bench-
marks for innovation and excellence. With
a visionary at its helm, the firm’s future
projects promise not only architectural
brilliance but a genuine connection to the
people who will inhabit them.
Bruno’s journey from a young man
searching for his passion to one of the
region's leading designers and architects
is one of vision, perseverance, and an un-
wavering belief in the power of design to
shape how we live. His work continues to
inspire, pushing the boundaries of what is
possible, one project at a time.

ichael Magill,
Creative Director
of RSP, has been
a driving force
behind the stu-
dio’s impressive
growth over the
past year. His
leadership, vision, and passion for design have
not only elevated the firm’s creative output but
also expanded its reach, particularly in Saudi
Arabia, where RSP has secured several pres-
tigious projects in 2024 alone. From large-scale
mixed-use developments to high-end hospital-
ity projects, RSP is now firmly established as a
key player in the region’s evolving construction
industry.
With over 20 years of experience, Michael has
a talent for pushing creative boundaries while
keeping a sharp focus on client needs and pro-
ject goals. This blend of artistic innovation and
practical expertise has made him a respected
figure within the studio and across the broader
architecture community.
One of Michael’s standout achievements in
2023, was leading the design of the Lagerfeld
Residential Development, a luxury project that
has achieved significant attention. He took the
design ethos of Karl Lagerfeld and blended
it with a distinctly local flavour, incorporat-
ing Dubai’s modern essence into Lagerfeld’s
sophisticated design philosophy. Michael’s
approach balanced natural light, ergonomic
principles, and sustainable materials, all aimed
at enhancing the well-being of residents. The
result was a high-end living experience that
went well beyond client expectations.
Michael worked closely with Taraf Properties
and the Lagerfeld team, leading workshops in
both Dubai and Paris to ensure that every as-
pect of the design- from the master plan to the
interior finishes- honored Lagerfeld’s legacy.
This wasn’t just another luxury development, it
was a tribute to Karl’s unique style and vision.
By the time the project launched in March
2024, both Taraf and the Lagerfeld team were
extremely pleased with the outcome which has
since set a new standard for high-end residen-
tial design in the region.
In the past year, Aldar Properties launched the
Nobu Hotel & Branded Residences on Saadiyat
Island, Abu Dhabi. Michael led the design on
this project, as one of RSP’s major hospitality
projects seamlessly integrating Japanese influ-
ences that reflect the renowned international
Nobu’s distinctive essence. The design draws
heavily on minimalism, a hallmark of Japanese

architecture, while also incorporating subtle
local influences to create a unique lifestyle
experience.
Another project that was successfully
launched this year which was led by Michael
is the high-end residences with Dubai Holding
called Elara Residences in Madinat Jumeirah
Living. The development consists of mid-rise
buildings with views of the iconic Burj Al Arab
and Madinat Jumeirah.
Beyond Dubai, Michael has played a pivotal
role in RSP’s expansion into Saudi Arabia,
where the firm has seen a surge in winning
high-profile projects. Over the past year, RSP
has become a trusted partner for some of the
Kingdom’s most prominent clients, including
PIF entities like Qiddiya, Diriyah Gate, ROSHN,
and SEVEN. These large-scale mixed-use
developments and prestigious hospitality
projects have cemented RSP’s status as a
leading design firm in the region.
Michael’s ability to adapt to the unique de-
mands of each project has earned him praise
from clients. Whether he’s designing a luxury
villa in Dubai or overseeing a large-scale
mixed-use development in Saudi Arabia, Mi-
chael brings the same level of care, creativity,
and attention to detail. His expertise in blend-
ing contemporary design with cultural context
has been a key factor in RSP’s success in
the region, where projects often require a
delicate balance between modernity and
tradition.
In addition to the firm’s ongoing projects,
Michael has also been instrumental in RSP’s
internal growth. In June 2024, RSP completed
its move to a new office in Downtown Dubai,
a project that Michael personally oversaw.
The new office, which now has double the
capacity of the previous space, reflects RSP’s
evolving brand and future ambitions. With its
creative layout, vibrant breakout areas, and
collaborative workspaces, the new studio is a
testament to Michael’s vision for a workplace
that fosters both productivity and creativity.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that Michael’s
leadership will continue to shape RSP’s
trajectory. As the firm takes on even more
ambitious projects in Saudi Arabia and
beyond, Michael’s ability to balance creativity
with strategic thinking will be crucial in
maintaining RSP’s standing as a leader in the
architecture world.

him apart in the competitive world of interior
design. From Michelin-starred restaurants to
luxury hotels, Govind’s spaces don’t just look
good—they evoke emotion, foster connection,
and leave lasting impressions. Whether he’s
collaborating with international brands like
Jumeirah, Marriott, and Accor, or bringing to life
the vision of renowned chefs like Reif Othman,
Govind consistently pushes the boundaries of
design, ensuring that each project delivers on
both aesthetics and functionality.
His journey to success was not without
its hurdles. In 2018, Govind estab-
lished TwentyOne06 from his modest
apartment—number 2106—equipped
with only a laptop and an ambitious
vision. Today, the studio is celebrated
as one of the most respected boutique
design agencies in the region, known
for its innovative and award-winning
concepts in the F&B and hospitality
sectors. Under Govind’s leadership,
the company has expanded from its
Dubai roots to a global presence, all
while maintaining the personalised
approach that characterises boutique
firms. His commitment to creativity
and client satisfaction has been in-
strumental in driving the firm’s growth
and reputation.
Under Govind’s direction, Twenty-
One06 has garnered several prestig-
ious awards, including multiple rec-
ognitions from local and international
design platforms. His designs have
been featured in leading publications,
and his firm is known for pushing the
envelope—never settling for the status
quo, always seeking to innovate.
What makes Govind truly stand out is
his commitment to data-driven design.
He believes that each project should
begin with a deep dive into research,
analyzing market trends, user behavior,
and client needs. It’s this research-first
approach that ensures TwentyOne06
doesn’t just follow trends but sets
them.
As he continues to lead the way in
the design industry, his innovative spirit
remains at the heart of everything he
does. With every project, he redefines
what it means to create spaces that
not only function but inspire, delight,
and connect.

tuart Allen, the founder and managing director of
AAID, has established the firm as a leading inte-
rior design powerhouse in the UAE, with a rapidly
growing influence in Saudi Arabia. His career
in design is marked by a blend of artistic vision
and technical expertise, honed through years
of experience and a diverse global perspective.
Since 2010, Stuart has been a leading force in
the region, gaining significant experience in major design cities such
as New York, San Francisco, London, Dubai, and various locations
across Europe.
This global exposure allowed Stuart to refine his skills under the
guidance of notable mentors, including Stephen Miller Siegal, provid-
ing him with a broad understanding of design principles and cultural
nuances that he brought into his own practice. His career in the USA
focused on high-end residential and retail projects, where he worked
with distinguished clients such as the Lauder family, Ivanka Trump,
Isaac Mizrahi, Liz Claiborne, and Jay Z, managing projects that ranged
from luxurious apartments on Madison and Fifth Avenues to stylish
lofts in Soho.
When establishing AAID, Stuart envisioned delivering more than just
attractive designs. He emphasises that "Design isn’t measured by
how much you spend, but by its integrity and functionality. The true
value of design is found in creating spaces that are both practical
and meaningful." This philosophy reflects AAID's approach, where
each project harmonizes aesthetic appeal with practical functionali-
ty, striving for both beauty and purpose.
Under Stuart’s leadership, AAID has earned a reputation for creating
spaces that are both innovative and carefully designed. The firm's
design philosophy centers on collaborative creativity and a keen
attention to detail, ensuring that each project upholds high standards

needs and visions, working together
to create spaces that maximise ar-

Stuart's commitment to the region
is evident in AAID’s expansion into
Saudi Arabia. Recognizing the po-
tential of Vision 2030, he has guided

AAID’s presence in Saudi Arabia
includes significant projects for cli-
ents such as Bain & Company, Ernst
& Young, and Boston Consulting
Group, as well as high-profile devel-
opments like The Ministry of Tourism
HQ. Stuart states, “We are not a
fly-in, fly-out firm. At AAID, we are
deeply invested in this region. There
was once a belief that design firms
in the Middle East were lagging
behind global trends; however, this
perception is outdated. The talent
in this region is exceptional, and
design firms here are now leaders
in the global market. At AAID, we
are committed to upholding global
design standards while exceeding
our clients' expectations by raising
the bar regionally and globally.”
In addition to his design exper-
tise, Stuart has made significant
contributions to the industry as a

of knowledge about international
design standards. Having spent over
a decade in the region, he shares
invaluable insights into local practic-
es and trends. Within the AAID team,
Stuart fosters growth and collabo-
ration, creating an environment that
inspires creativity and professional
development. Many team members
have started as interns or juniors
under his guidance, benefiting from
his support to advance their careers
within the company. Furthermore,
he recognizes the vital role of team
building and mutual support in the
workplace, ensuring that every
member feels valued and empow-
ered to contribute.
Stuart’s influence extends beyond
his projects. He has been recog-
nized as one of the top 10 most
influential designers in Saudi Arabia
and has participated in various
industry events and panel discus-
sions. His role as an advisor on the
2024 WORKSPACE advisory board
further underscores his expertise
and impact on the industry.
Stuart’s career trajectory illus-
trates his dedication to advancing
the field of interior design. His work
aligns with both regional and global
design trends while maintaining a
focus on integrity and practicality.

brings clients’ visions to life by adopting
purposeful design practices to create
liveable, sustainable, and adaptable
places fit for the future. He brings over
30 years experience across the UK, Asia,
and the Middle East, and a broad portfolio of aviation, rail, hospitality,
and residential projects. Maxwell’s approach to design and architecture
is underpinned by the core values of sustainability and digital tools to
drive innovation and the long-term impact on the built environment.

buildings is increasingly
driving a whole moral,
social, and sustainable
era. Technology advance-
ments have accelerated
processes and the latest
complimentary aspects
of computational, para-
metric, and generative
modes of creation have
opened new possibilities,
enabling architects to
conceive designs that
were previously unimag-
inable.
Maxwell’s inspiration
often stems from the
natural environment.
To him, nature is the
greatest library and it’s
no surprise that biophilic
design is so emergent
as a key driver in many
designs. As part of his
design philosophy, nature
is an endless source of
creativity, providing les-
sons in sustainability, ef-
ficiency, and beauty that
can inform architectural
design. By integrating
insights from these inter-
ests into his architectural
practice, he can innovate
and contribute to more
holistic and impactful
solutions.
For Maxwell, sustain-
ability is not a choice,
it is rather a necessity.
We have a moral duty to
ensure our buildings are
designed in a way that
they promote well-being
and ‘touch the world
lightly’. At AtkinsRéalis,
sustainability experts are
integrated into the early
stages of each project,
ensuring that sustainable
principles are ingrained
in the very DNA of the
design.
From commercial plac-
es to hospitality venues,
residential projects, and
beyond, each area pre-
sents an opportunity for
creativity and innovation.
He finds aviation archi-
tecture more interesting
due to its emotive nature.
Designing spaces within
airports and aircraft re-
quires a sharp balance of
functionality, aesthetics,
and passenger experi-
ence, making it an excit-
ing area of work. Some of
his recent notable work
in mixed-use develop-
ments in the UAE include
flagship projects by Aldar,
such as Saadiyat Grove,
Athlon, and Grade A office
tower in DIFC. Notable
features include sustain-
able design, innovative
architecture and amen-
ities tailored to modern
living, with an emphasis
on wellbeing and human
engagement.
Maxwell is particularly
passionate about the role
he can play in nurturing
and guiding young talent
to ensure they reach
their full potential. By
encouraging a culture
of innovation, collabo-
ration, and continuous
learning, he believes that
AtkinsRéalis will remain
at the forefront of the in-
dustry, making significant
contributions to the built
environment and shaping
a sustainable and inspir-
ing future for the planet
and its people.
In 2024, AtkinsRéa-
lis has expanded its
architecture business
by appointing seasoned
talents from around the
world. The Company
is also investing in its
design capabilities by
establishing an architec-
ture studio that brings
together top-notch talent
and embeds AI tools and
people-centric design.
The architecture studio
is focused on high-profile
competitions and its
ongoing development of
all architectural assets
within the New Murabba
and Mukaab project.
AtkinsRéalis’ architecture
studio also examines
what makes architecture
and master planning
liveable and more
attractive to people. This
requires designing from
a smaller scale outwards
in order to create new
developments that
are human-centric. As
the Company grows
its talent pool, diverse
complimentary skills and
areas of specialism will
help expand the richness
of its architectural
offerings.
For the years to come,
AtkinsRéalis aims to lead
the way in architecture
and design by think-
ing holistically across
disciplines and sectors.
Their ability to create
synergies and deliver
value-added solutions to
clients sets them apart in
the industry. Another key
trend that has increased
in importance is flexible
design that is adaptive
enough to guarantee
future reuse and thus,
mitigates the impact of
construction on the envi-
ronment. Future-proofing
designs to allow for
flexible adaptation and
repurposing is central to
the Company’s philoso-
phy and is incorporated
from the start in all its
projects.
“The region is providing
an unprecedented forum
and creative challenge
to the world’s best cre-
ative minds, attracting
innovation, visioning, and
originality to answer the
planet's most pressing
questions about our
impact on society today
and the legacy we will
leave for future genera-
tions,” shares Maxwell.

themes into her designs.

Alina has built a firm known for its creativity,
innovation, and dedication to sustainability.
In just a short period, her work has captured
the attention of some of the region’s most
prominent stakeholders, and her projects
are already leaving a lasting impression. The
firm’s ethos of merging modern aesthetics
with a deep connection to the environment is
seen in every detail of their designs with cur-
rent projects in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Maldives,
and Miami; In recognition of its visionary
approach, Valcarce Architects was named

lighting her influence not just in architecture,
but also in the broader business world. Her
talents have long been recognised, as early
as 2018 when she was honoured as one of
the Best Designers in Asia Under 40.

lief in architecture as a dialogue between na-
ture and human life. This approach is evident
in her diverse portfolio, where organic forms,
natural materials, and environmental
considerations come together to create
buildings that are as functional as they
are beautiful. Her recent residential pro-
jects, like Cove Residences in Dubailand
and Beach Walk on Dubai Islands, are
prime examples of how her architec-
tural designs seamlessly integrate with
landscape.
Alina’s ongoing project, Gaia – Luxu-
ry Habitat, takes this commitment to
nature even further. This innovative
project uses prefabricated structures
designed to blend harmoniously with

net-zero carbon cities. Projects like
Gaiaare making a bold statement about
the future of sustainable architecture.
What truly distinguishes Alina is her
unwavering commitment to pushing the
limits of architectural design. Her pro-
jects are not only transforming the cit-
ies she works in but also redefining the
way we perceive space, sustainability,
and the intricate relationship between
people and their built environments.

just a few years, she has achieved what
many only aspire to, yet her story is still
unfolding. With an expanding portfolio

arek Shuaib has been at the helm of
leadership at Pace for over 15 years.
His professional experience was
shaped early on by passion and a
detail-oriented mind, having been
born and bred around design and architectural
excellence. His late father founded the firm
in 1968, and Tarek dedicated his studies and
professional years to a legacy that lives on.
Tarek was the innovator rebuilding on an
initial vision of innovative design and thorough
project implementation, focussing on master
planning and ensuring proper foresight to
fruition. By embracing creativity and
cementing innovation into the fabric
of the firm, he has led Pace to count-
less award-winning projects and a set of barri-
er-breaking values that are manifested through
the work that he leads. Under his leadership,
and running all three regional offices - Kuwait,
Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain - Pace has delivered
more than 1800 projects across the region and
internationally, to date.
Pace is recognised for leading by example,
with people at the forefront of all its work.
Through educationally driven systems that
encourage continuous learning and the imple-
mentation of new software, along with a focus
on redefining architecture, design, and delivery,
Pace consistently pushes the boundaries of
modern design and cultural integration.
“Creativity is a word that is often casually
thrown around in our industry, but its value as
a core driving tenant of architectural design
and development cannot be overstated.
Creativity goes beyond aesthetics, it encom-
passes processes, performance, sustainability
practices, mobilizing technology, as well as
maximising function and value for the client
and the community. We at Pace reframe
creativity as innovation. Our goal with every
project, regardless of scope, mandate, or scale,
is to push the boundaries wherever possible.
There’s always room to do things better and
explore opportunities for fresh perspectives
and innovation. We need to let best practices
and the precedence of success guide us, but
we should never make the mistake of getting
caught in a trap of repetition and redundancy
of our own making.
We as designers, architects, and engineers
are shaping the very landscape of our com-
munities and nations, not just for us but for
several generations to follow. We need to be
innovators and be willing to take risks. The
potential is limitless, we simply must be willing
to embrace that potential," highlights Tarek.

ensuring that each design maintains
its beauty over time.
One of Maisa’s notable achieve-
ments was her graduation project—a
school designed for children with
autism. This project was recognised for
its thoughtful approach and won first
place, reflecting her ability to blend
creativity with a deep understanding
of client needs. This success laid a
strong foundation for her subsequent
career.
In her practice, she emphasises the
importance of paying attention to de-
tail and avoiding common pitfalls such
as overemphasis on luxury furniture
at the expense of essential elements
like quality finishes and effective
use of natural light. She advocates
for investing in high-quality, timeless
pieces and ensuring that every design
element contributes to a cohesive and
comfortable living environment.
Looking ahead, Maisa anticipates
that the future of interior design will
increasingly prioritise sustainability
and innovative materials. While she
acknowledges the potential of artificial
intelligence in generating design ideas,
she believes that the unique creativity
and expertise of human designers will
remain crucial. Her work continues
to push the boundaries of design,
aiming to create homes that are not
only beautiful and functional but also
enduring and inspiring.

n recent years, business event venues
worldwide have undergone a transfor-
mation, where the visitor experience now
goes hand-in-hand with environmental re-
sponsibility. Beyond offering cutting-edge
technology and first-class facilities, these
venues integrate clean, modern designs,
innovative sustainable features, and ad-
vanced digitalisation to create spaces that truly
stand out. The Oman Convention & Exhibition
Centre (OCEC) exemplifies this shift, setting
new benchmarks not only in architecture but in
sustainability.
The OCEC recently celebrated a significant
win at the Sustainability Innovation Awards, a
testament to its unwavering commitment to re-
ducing its environmental impact. This recognition
speaks volumes about the centre's ambition to
lead the way in sustainable design while offering
visitors a world-class experience.
At the heart of this experience is the OCEC’s
breathtaking architecture. The famous Sultan’s
Rose graces the rose-shaped dome, a striking
feature that crowns the Madinat Al Irfan Theatre
and has become an iconic symbol of modern
Omani architecture. For the past eight years, the
OCEC has been praised for its unique design,
which artfully blends modern aesthetics with
practical, eco-conscious elements. Surrounding
the venue are thriving gardens, meticulously
maintained with a focus on biodiversity. These
gardens are replenished with fruit trees, bee
farms, and plants that support the local ecosys-
tem. “Some call it a spa, a little jewel,” says Eng.
Said Al Shanfari, CEO of the Oman Convention &
Exhibition Centre. “Many visitors, whether local
or international, notice the striking architecture,
the use of natural light to reduce artificial lighting,
open spaces, clean white marble, and the overall
modern design. This elevates their experience,
making it truly unique.”
The OCEC’s exceptional design goes beyond
aesthetics - it is a space that fosters creativity,
collaboration, and a sense of grandeur, inspiring
event organisers and participants alike. The
open spaces, elegant marble finishes, and the
strategic use of natural materials create an
atmosphere that elevates every event within its
walls. The thoughtful inclusion of sustainable fea-
tures, such as the integration of outdoor spaces,
also enhances the comfort and productivity of
delegates, ensuring that the venue isn’t just a
place to host events - it becomes a catalyst for
better events.
As part of OMRAN Group, the OCEC was
designed with sustainability embedded from the
outset. When it was awarded LEED Gold Certifi-
cation in 2018, the OCEC became the first >>>

In its ongoing pursuit of sustainability, OCEC has partnered with TotalEnergies Renewables Middle
East & Africa for a rooftop solar photovoltaic project. This 4.6 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop
installation is set to produce 7,805 megawatts- hours (MWh) of solar energy annually, which covers

of OMRAN's projects to receive
this prestigious recognition. At
the time, it also held the highest
LEED point score in the Sultan-
ate. With this certification, the
OCEC showcased the intelli-
gent design and the careful use
of materials. For instance, the
OCEC’s architecture maximises
natural lighting and airflow, re-
ducing the reliance on artificial
light and air conditioning sys-
tems, which are typically signifi-
cant energy consumers in such
large venues. This thoughtful
architectural approach ensures
that sustainability is seamless-
ly integrated with the overall
visitor experience.
In its ongoing pursuit of sus-
tainability, OCEC has partnered
with TotalEnergies Renewables
Middle East & Africa for a roof-
top solar photovoltaic project.
This 4.6 megawatt-peak (MWp)
solar rooftop installation is
set to produce 7,805 mega-
watts-hours (MWh) of solar
energy annually, which covers
approximately one-fourth of
OCEC’s electricity needs. This
collaboration exemplifies the
venue’s commitment to reduc-
ing its carbon footprint and
supporting Oman’s renewable
energy goals.
"Our partnership with TotalEn-
ergies is a major step towards
achieving our long-term sus-
tainability objectives,” explains
Al Shanfari. "This project not
only enhances our venue’s
green credentials but also
provides a tangible example of
how corporate collaboration
can drive meaningful change in
sustainability efforts."
Page 61
A dedicated Green Team has been formed to drive further sustainable projects and innovations. This team
has conducted extensive research to improve operational efficiency, introducing strategies to reduce the
environmental footprint of both the venue and its visitors.
This innovative solar initiative underscores the
OCEC’s leadership in sustainable venues, making it
an attractive location for events focused on energy
diversification, such as the Green Hydrogen Summit
and Oman Sustainability Week.
The OCEC’s dedication to green initiatives doesn’t
stop at solar power. A dedicated Green Team has
been formed to drive further sustainable projects
and innovations. This team has conducted exten-
sive research to improve operational efficiency,
introducing strategies to reduce the environmental
footprint of both the venue and its visitors. The
centre has partnered with local hospitality providers
and charities to develop waste management and
food redistribution systems, ensuring that sus-
tainability is integrated across all aspects of event
management.
By hosting globally recognised events, the OCEC
continues to play an active role in Oman’s broader
sustainability agenda. The recent solar rooftop initi-
ative not only reduces the venue’s carbon footprint
but also provides event organisers with the oppor-
tunity to host conferences in a truly eco-friendly
environment. Through its initiatives, the OCEC has
sparked meaningful dialogue on the intersection of
business objectives, industry trends, and sustaina-
bility initiatives. By leading through example, it has
demonstrated how these elements can seamlessly
align, setting a new standard for the industry.
As Eng. Said Al Shanfari summarises, “At the
OCEC, we are continuously evolving to enhance the
visitor experience while staying true to our core
value of sustainability. We believe that by providing
a sustainable venue, we are contributing not just to
Oman’s goals but to global efforts in building a better,
greener future. In the long run, we are also respond-
ing to industry changes, ensuring that our venue
remains attractive”
The Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre,
strategically located in Muscat near the Muscat
International Airport, hosts over 250 events annually,
serving as a dynamic hub for discussions on Oman’s
future. The OCEC is known to host the annual IDF
Oman Exhibition, focused on interior & exterior de-
sign solutions. In the coming months, audiences can
expect a wide range of events to take place at the
OCEC, including the OCEC’s annual art fair, Muscat
Art from 29 to 31 October.

hat inspired
you to
create the
concept of
Soul Kitch-
en, and
how does it
reflect your personal journey?
We created the concept of Soul Kitchen
in Dubai to reflect the journey of migrating
our original concept from Beirut. We drew
inspiration from the Levantine Arabs who,
throughout history, have often been forced
to leave their homelands and start anew—a
journey we call "al hijra" in Arabic, meaning
migration, symbolized by the birds that
became our central theme.
Soul Kitchen’s design in Dubai draws
from its original Beirut location. How
did you approach adapting the interior
design to maintain its essence while
also catering to a new environment?
Soul Kitchen in Dubai is an elevated evolu-
tion of what we first created in Beirut. The
original location features found materials
and objects, like the concrete blocks known
as "mashrabiya" used for ventilation in
buildings. We reinterpreted those blocks in
the ceiling design of Soul Kitchen Dubai,
along with the signature birds and feathers,
which now appear as striking installations
throughout the space.

The menu at Soul Kitchen
features a fusion of Arab and
South American flavors. Can
you tell us about the creative
process behind some of the key
dishes, such as the Hummus
Chimichurri and White Fish
Tabboule Ceviche?
In the 19th century, many of our
ancestors migrated to South Amer-
ica, where an incredible fusion of
Levantine and Latin American
cuisines emerged. Our menu is
a direct tribute to that cultural
blend and you can see it and taste it
through Chef Margarita’s blend of
colours, ingredients, and spices, as
well as how we merged very Latin
American and very Lebanese iconic
recipes together.
Soul Kitchen has become
known for its unique events like
Monday Jazz nights and Latin
Sunday nights. What drives the
curation of these events, and
how do they enhance the overall
experience at the restaurant?
Our music programming is
curated by my partner, Wassim
Bou Malham, a rockstar producer
and musician with a deep passion
for global sounds. He ensures that
Soul Kitchen remains a hub for
musical discovery, inspiration, and
collaboration with exciting artists
from around the world.
Our Monday Jazz nights have
become a sensation in Dubai, offer-
ing guests the chance to experience
alternative jazz bands from various
countries, pushing the boundaries
of contemporary jazz.
We also host music diggers and
curators from across the globe on
special nights. Latin Sundays, for
instance, allow guests to explore
the sounds of a different Latin
American country each time. From
this idea we created Ceviche and
Bellinis Wednesdays, to celebrate
our iconic ceviches and our OG
Arak Bellini, all in the spirit of
reinforcing our story from different
angles every night.
On weekends, the vibe shifts
to a more groovy, danceable
atmosphere after dinner, turning
Soul Kitchen into a space where
our community can perform, listen,
eat, drink, or simply dance the
night away.
In what ways did you incorpo-
rate storytelling into the design
elements at Soul Kitchen, par-
ticularly in the art installations
and decor choices?
The geometric ‘mashrabiya’ ceiling
is a standout feature in the Dubai
location. Can you tell us more
about its significance and how it
ties into both the local architecture
and the Soul Kitchen brand?
Art installations are a central
feature at Soul Kitchen. Can
you share the stories behind
some of the most impactful
installations, like the rotating
mechanical flock of birds
and Rumi Dalle’s ‘Feathers of
Migrating Birds’?
When designing the interior, I
wanted to stay true to the essence
of the original Soul Kitchen. Green
remains a dominant color, comple-
mented by trees and plants to bring
life to the space. This organic feel is
balanced by warm terracotta tones
and bold geometric structures in
the woodwork for a more sophisti-
cated, elevated look. The geometric
"mashrabiya" in the ceiling—a nod
to both the Beirut location and
Lebanese architecture—adds a
final touch of authenticity. >>>

gather while being part of a club that hosted
some of the world’s biggest artists and DJs
week after week.
Soul Kitchen quickly became more than
just a bar; it shaped how we dressed, how we
danced, and even our drinking culture, giving
rise to the unique "soul kitchenesque" style.
In Dubai, Soul Kitchen serves a similar
purpose: a place to enjoy beautifully curated
music, an elevated cocktail bar experience,
and most importantly, incredible food. This
homey feeling that we were able to transport
with us created a new hub, or nest, for our
community and friends to meet up every
week.
As Soul Kitchen continues to grow and
evolve, what future collaborations or
new concepts are you most excited about
bringing to the space?
We've just opened our terrace, are adding
a tequila bar and lounge to the green room,
launching a club next door for more mu-
sic-centered nights, and creating a bar bistro
for a laid-back daytime vibe.

Behind the bar, you’ll find a constantly
rotating mechanical installation of a
flock of birds, co-designed by myself
and creative director Hamza Mekdad.
This piece tells the centuries-old story
of Levantine people who’ve had to leave
their homes in search of inspiration,
safety, and a sense of belonging.
Suspended above the green room is
Rumi Dalle’s installation, “Feathers of
Migrating Birds,” where 150 feathers
each represent the journey of a migrating
artisan, from Beirut to Dubai, perfectly
aligned with Soul Kitchen’s narrative.
Rumi Dalle, an acclaimed artist from
Beirut, has handcrafted works for
Hermes and Iwan Maktabi, among
others.
The walls are adorned with curated
carpets from Iwan Maktabi, part of a
semi-permanent installation that will
reinvent itself every six months, showcas-
ing new works by artists and curators we
admire.
How does the concept of migration
influence not only the design and at-
mosphere of Soul Kitchen but also its
role as a communal space in Dubai?
We launched Soul Kitchen in Beirut
about seven years ago, creating a space
where we could unwind with great
cocktails and play the music we loved at
home. It was the first cocktail bar of its
kind, tucked inside The Grand Factory—
our very first club in Beirut.
Our goal was to build a place where
we truly belonged, where friends could
