Editor's note
T
hese past months have been a
whirlwind — juggling deadlines,
chasing stories, and soaking in
inspiration at every turn. Amid the chaos,
it’s the moments of passion, creativity, and
connection that remind me why I love this
industry. We’re in that exciting space where
we’re wrapping up one chapter while gear-
ing up for the next, having just completed
the Creative 30 Powerlist 2025 and now
setting our sights on the Design Middle East
Awards and Forum. I’m counting down the
moments to the most anticipated night of
the year — every cheer, every glowing face,
and every celebration feels as much mine
as it is yours. Even standing in the corner,
fingers crossed and hoping everything
goes smoothly, watching the joy, pride, and
excitement on everyone’s faces makes each
moment unforgettable.
This issue’s cover story features Fady
Friberg, the visionary CEO and Founder of
IF HUB, who is redefining Dubai’s design
landscape with a bold new destination in
Umm Suqeim. More than a showroom,
IF HUB is a creative ecosystem — a space
where architects, designers, and home-
owners connect, collaborate, and create.
Fady’s story is one of vision, courage, and
relentless pursuit of innovation, inspiring
anyone passionate about shaping the future
of design.
We’re proud to unveil the Creative 30
Powerlist, celebrating the region’s leading
architects and designers whose ideas
continue to push boundaries and shape the
future of design. From luxury interiors to
sustainable urban visions, their work goes
beyond spaces, inspiring communities
and redefining lifestyles across the Middle
East. This edition highlights those whose
creativity, innovation, and vision set new
benchmarks and leave a lasting impact on
the world of design.
And for my Pick of the Month, I’m person-
ally leaning towards a glamorous mirror.
Sleek, stylish, and a little magical, it’s the
kind of piece that makes a statement… and
maybe even convinces you to check yourself
out a little more often.

Caparol:
UAE
Homes
Want
to Move
Beyond
Beige
UAE homeowners are
increasingly moving
away from neutral
interiors, seeking vibrant
colours that reflect their
personality and creativity.
N
ew research reveals UAE residents
are ready to let go of their neutral-
toned interiors and embrace
personality-driven, vibrant designs.
The YouGov survey commissioned
by Caparol, a global leader in
premium paint and coatings
solutions, highlights a significant
shift in home design aspirations,
showing 70% want to break away from neutral tones
and infuse their spaces with more expressive and bolder
colours.
The findings, published in the report titled ‘The UAE
Colour Confidence’ capture the delicate balance residents
seek between timeless, neutral palettes and the growing
desire for bold, expressive interiors that better reflect their
personality and creativity.
While 46% of homes remain dominated by whites,
creams, and greys, the findings suggest a cultural and
generational movement toward
more creative and sustainable
interiors. Among UAE residents,
62% want their homes to better
reflect their personality and
creativity, underscoring the
emotional connection between
colour and self-expression.
“For years, neutral tones like
beige and white have defined
homes in the UAE, but people
are now craving interiors that
feel more personal and inspiring
– driven by a growing focus on
wellbeing, sustainability, and the
desire for spaces that reflect
changing lifestyles,” said Dirk
Schilmöller, Managing Director
Middle East, Africa & Asia. “In a
country as diverse as the UAE,
where cultures and traditions meet,
colour becomes a way to express
identity, heritage, and aspiration.
Our report shows how colours that
evoke happiness, confidence, and
connection with nature are shaping
a bold new design movement
across the region.”

and concerns about suitability
(29%) hold some residents
back. Confidence also plays a
role, with 20% unsure about
combining colours, while 16%
cite lack of time to experiment.

believe their generation is
more thoughtful and selective
in using colour, while 32% of
those aged 35–44-year-olds

Regional culture plays a
key role
62% of residents associate
white with the UAE’s cultural
identity, and landmarks like
the Downtown Dubai skyline
(27%) influence personal style
choices.
Caparol is bridging these
gaps through its portfolio
of premium paints and

a wide range of colours,
from timeless neutrals to
vibrant shades, as well as
eco-friendly solutions that
support sustainable living.
The brand’s innovations,
such as CapaCare Protect,

CleanStar are designed to
give people the confidence
to experiment with colour
while ensuring durability
and environmental
responsibility.
“With bold colour trends
gaining traction and
Millennials embracing
creative risks in design,
the UAE is at an inflection
point when it comes to how
homes reflect personality
and sustainability. The
opportunity lies in helping
people overcome barriers
to experimentation and
building the confidence
to combine colours in
ways that feel authentic
and sustainable. As the
influence of digital platforms
grows, this moment has
the potential to redefine
how we think about self-
expression, creativity, and
wellbeing in our living
spaces,” added Schilmöller.

Disruptor Redefining
Luxury Design: Azhar
Sajan
In an industry shaped
by tradition and legacy,
Azhar Sajan has emerged
as a transformative force,
reshaping how design is created, shared, and
celebrated. With an instinct for innovation and
a people-first mindset, he has built communi-
ties that empower the next generation, break
barriers, and redefine luxury design.
Through Casa Milano, Azhar has championed
creativity and collaboration, giving emerging
voices the platform they deserve. His ground-
breaking initiatives, Talking Walls and Design
Duels, are not just events; they are movements
transforming how designers connect, create,
and inspire.
More Than Business: Championing
Creative Talent
Azhar’s contributions extend far beyond Casa
Milano’s success. His mission has always been
clear: to empower emerging designers and
amplify new perspectives.
At the heart of this vision lies Talking Walls,
a design challenge that reimagines bathroom
spaces while pushing creative boundaries.
Now entering its third season, the competition
invites leading UAE design studios to trans-
form a modest 12 sqm space into a conceptual
masterpiece. Guided by seasoned mentors
and anchored by a yearly theme, participants
explore the future of modern bathrooms, chal-
lenging convention and showcasing limitless
potential.
What sets Talking Walls apart is its spirit
of collaboration. It is not merely a contest,
but a platform that nurtures creativity and
celebrates vision. With firms like KCA
International, MMAC Design Associates, and
Interspace part of the roster, the stage is set
for another landmark year. Culminating in a
VIP awards ceremony this November at Dubai
Design District, the competition offers not just
recognition but opportunity, with the grand
prize being an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy,
immersing winners in the birthplace of design
and craftsmanship.
Beyond Design: Building Communities
Through Sport
If Talking Walls is where creativity flourishes,
Design Duels is where community thrives.
What began as a sports tournament has grown
into the UAE’s largest multi-sport event for the
design and home improvement industries.
Hosted by Casa Milano and supported by
the Dubai Sports Council, Design Duels has

competition meets camaraderie. Hundreds
of companies and thousands of participants
come together, breaking barriers, forging
relationships, and strengthening the fabric
of the design community.
Now entering its third season in October
2025, Design Duels is expanding with new
sports like Pickleball and Carrom, ensuring
inclusivity and fun for all. For Azhar, sport
is the ultimate connector: a platform
that unites people, sparks conversation,
and creates unique networks outside the
boardroom.
What sets Talking Walls apart is its spirit of collaboration. It is
not merely a contest, but a platform that nurtures creativity
and celebrates vision.
A People’s Leader with a Global Vision
What sets Azhar apart is not only his disruptive ideas, but his deep compassion and relatability. From
blue-collar workers to top executives, he listens, understands, and connects. Colleagues and partners
often describe him as a man with a huge heart, an empathetic leader who values people as much as
performance.
This people-first approach extends to his dual leadership. At Casa Milano, Azhar is shaping design inno-
vation; at Danube Hospitality, he leads the OS&E division, ensuring that iconic landmarks such as the
Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Dubai International Airport are equipped with world-class essentials.
His ability to balance creative vision with operational excellence gives him a rare, complete perspective
on design and hospitality.
A New Era of Leadership
Azhar Sajan is not the typical industry heir. Starting his journey at just 22 in 2019, he has, by 2025,
evolved into a mature, resilient, and relatable leader well beyond his years.
For him, true innovation is not about creating exceptional designs alone. It is about building ecosystems
where others can thrive, collaborate, and shine. His story is one of empowerment, disruption, and heart,
proof that the future of design lies not in legacy, but in leadership that listens.
As the industry continues to evolve, one thing is certain: Azhar Sajan is here not just to participate, but to
lead, inspire, and rewrite the narrative of modern design.

I
n the shimmering skyline of Dubai,
few addresses command as much
prestige and allure as The Royal
Atlantis Residences. Rising ma-
jestically over the Palm Jumeirah,
it stands as a global symbol of
ultra-luxury, exclusivity, and refined
living. Within this architectural
masterpiece, Muse Interior Design
Dubai has once again delivered bril-
liance—bringing to life a project that
not only redefines modern living but
also curates an experience of every-
day indulgence.
This project—an apartment thoughtfully reimagined
for a young and ambitious individual—embodies the true
spirit of bespoke design. Every detail has been carefully
curated, from the way natural light flows through the
space to the tactile allure of rare materials, all coming
together to reflect a lifestyle as refined and dynamic as
the person who calls it home.
A VISION OF LIFESTYLE, NOT JUST
LIVING
The guiding principle of this transformation was not
simply to renovate, but to reimagine the meaning of daily
life within one of the world’s most exclusive buildings.
The design team envisioned how the resident would
spend each moment of his day, tailoring the interiors to
align with his rhythm. Morning routines, evening relax-
ation, entertaining guests, or working from home—every
scenario has been seamlessly integrated into the design
blueprint.
This focus on lifestyle design rather than mere spa-
tial design elevates the apartment beyond function. It
becomes a canvas where routine merges with luxury, and
where every gesture—from opening a wardrobe to reclin-
ing on a sofa—is enriched with beauty and comfort.
CRAFTED WITH THE WORLD’S FINEST
MATERIALS
To honour both the grandeur of The Royal Atlantis and
the personal aspirations of its resident, only the finest
natural materials were selected. Hand-picked marbles
with striking veins, richly grained woods, and cus-
tom-crafted metals form the foundation of this space.
Each finish was chosen not only for its aesthetic strength
but also for its timeless durability—ensuring that the
apartment remains an eternal statement of refinement.
The palette strikes a perfect balance between contem-
porary sophistication and warm intimacy. Neutral tones
create a calm and grounded atmosphere, while accents
of bold textures introduce vibrancy and character. The
result is a visual harmony that is as soothing as it is
inspiring.

THE SPIRIT OF MUSE INTERIOR
DESIGN DUBAI
Muse Interior Design Dubai has long been
recognised for delivering projects that merge
creativity, precision, and innovation. In this
Royal Atlantis apartment, their philosophy is
crystallized. The team approached the project
not as decorators, but as storytellers—crafting
a narrative of modern luxury for a client who
values individuality and excellence.
Their ability to balance bold artistic state-

home that is at once cutting-edge and timeless.
This project reflects the firm’s signature ethos:
that true luxury is found not in excess, but in
meticulous attention to how a space supports
and inspires human life.
A NEW BENCHMARK FOR LUXURY
RESIDENCES
The transformation of this apartment at The Royal
Atlantis Residence is more than a design achieve-
ment—it is a declaration of what contemporary
living can be at its very highest level. It shows how
architecture, design, and lifestyle can merge into a
holistic vision of daily perfection.
For the young resident, this is not just a place to
live. It is a home that anticipates his needs, reflects
his identity, and surrounds him with beauty at
every moment. For Dubai, it is yet another example
of how the city continues to push the boundaries of
luxury living. And for Miss Interior Design Dubai, it
stands as a testament to their unwavering com-
mitment to crafting spaces where lifestyle meets
artistry.
In the world of design, there are projects that
impress, and then there are projects that inspire.
This Royal Atlantis Residence apartment belongs
unmistakably to the latter.

Dubai’s design landscape.

unrelenting drive to bridge gaps
in the design and real estate
world. Some people follow
trends—Fady creates them. A
sharp observer with an instinct
for innovation, he saw what the
market lacked and built what it
needed. After visiting countless
showrooms and recognising the
disconnect between creativity
and convenience, he envisioned
a destination that brings it all
together.
Today, IF HUB in Umm Suqeim,
Dubai stands as a one-stop
ecosystem for architects,
designers, and homeowners—
offering everything from
wardrobes and kitchens to tiles,
lighting, furniture, wallpapers, and
sanitaryware. It’s more than a
showroom; it’s where inspiration
meets access, and design finds its
true home.
Fady’s connection to design runs
deep, rooted in a passion for
spaces that shape experiences
and elevate lifestyles. Dubai, a city
defined by bold visions and iconic
architecture—from the soaring
Burj Khalifa to the culturally
resonant Dubai Opera—has long
been his muse. Having witnessed
its transformation firsthand,
he recognised the need for a
space that matched the city’s
ambition—innovative, accessible,
and inspiring. IF HUB is that space:

It’s where Dubai’s design
legacy meets its future.
We sat down with Fady
Friberg to uncover the
story behind his vision
— a journey defined
by bold ideas, creative
intuition, and an eye for
opportunity. In his own
words, he shares how
passion and purpose
led to the creation of
IF HUB, a space that
reimagines how design
is experienced and
explored.
“IF HUB IS TRULY A DREAM REALISED. AFTER VISITING COUNTLESS SHOWROOMS AND SEEING THE GAPS IN
THE MARKET FIRSTHAND, I ENVISIONED A SPACE THAT WOULD BOTH SERVE AND SUPPORT THE INDUSTRY—A
DESTINATION WHERE ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS CAN FIND EVERYTHING THEY NEED UNDER ONE ROOF.”
You’ve been in Dubai’s real estate industry for over a
decade—what inspired your journey into this field?
From the very beginning, I’ve been driven by a desire
to elevate experiences and create lasting impressions.
Entering Dubai’s real estate market, I saw an opportunity
to go beyond conventional transactions—to craft a vision
of luxury that combines exceptional design, thoughtful
curation, and unparalleled lifestyle experiences. For me,
it’s never been merely about transactions; it’s about
designing spaces that embody the highest standards of
lifestyle.
Can you share your background and how your passion for
design grew with your real estate journey?
I began my career as a programmer, but moving to
Dubai opened the door to a passion for real estate that
changed my trajectory. Over time, I saw that I could
merge design, creativity, and property into a single vision.
My goal became transforming real estate from mere
transactions into immersive, inspirational experiences.
Today, I focus on curating spaces and lifestyles that
leave a lasting impact.

What personal experiences
shaped your vision as an
entrepreneur?
I’ve always been driven
by the desire to make
independent decisions
and build something on my
own terms. That passion
for autonomy and creative
freedom has been the
foundation of my journey
as an entrepreneur. It
fuels my curiosity, pushes
me to take bold risks, and
inspires me to innovate at
every turn. Today, this same
drive continues to guide
everything I do at IF HUB,
shaping how we support,
empower, and elevate the
design and construction
community.
IF HUB has a unique identity—
how would you describe its
story in your own words?
IF HUB is truly a dream
realised. After visiting
countless showrooms
and seeing the gaps in
the market firsthand, I
envisioned a space that
would both serve and
support the industry—a
destination where architects
and designers can find
everything they need under
one roof. More than just a
store, it’s a community, a hub
for inspiration, collaboration,
and innovation. Our goal is to
make creative professionals’
work easier, more seamless,
and truly elevated.
What excites you most
about leading a space where
creativity and functionality
come together?
What excites me most
are the people and the
incredible perspectives
they bring. Every corner
of IF HUB tells a story of
creativity, innovation, and
vision, each reflecting
a distinct approach yet
coming together under one
roof as a cohesive, inspiring
whole. The way these
ideas interact, complement
each other, and spark
new possibilities is truly
exhilarating. Witnessing that
synergy in action—seeing
how creativity meets
functionality and transforms
into something greater—is
what motivates me and fuels
my passion every single day.
You emphasise the value
of people’s perspectives—
can you explain why you
think design is so crucial in
fostering human connection?
Design and furniture go far
beyond mere functionality—

they are powerful catalysts for connection and collaboration.
Thoughtfully designed spaces create environments where
people naturally come together, conversations spark, and ideas
flow freely. Every element, from layout to materials to lighting,
shapes how we interact, how we feel, and how we collaborate,
turning ordinary spaces into vibrant hubs of creativity and
human engagement.
You believe that design is about emotion and purpose—can you
share an example of this philosophy in action?
A: IF HUB itself embodies that philosophy. It’s far more than
a showroom; it’s a thoughtfully curated experience built with
clear purpose. Every corner, every detail, from the layout to the
materials, is designed to inspire, spark creativity, and foster
connection. The space encourages exploration, collaboration,
and engagement, turning a simple visit into an immersive
journey that reflects the power of purposeful design.
If you were to pick a brand that truly resonates with
you, it would be…
Tonino Lamborghini — admired not just for its
bold design language, but also for its innovative
collaborations that continually push boundaries
and redefine the meaning of luxury.
Who are your key clients and target audience,
and how closely do you collaborate with them
throughout the process?
Our core audience is architects and interior
designers, and collaboration lies at the very
heart of what we do. We work closely with them
at every stage, from understanding the unique
needs of their projects to offering tailored
solutions that enhance both functionality and
aesthetics. By maintaining an ongoing dialogue
and building strong relationships, we ensure that
our brands, products, and services genuinely
support their vision. It’s this partnership and
shared commitment to excellence that allows us
to contribute meaningfully to every project they
undertake.
What were some of the biggest challenges you
faced in bringing IF HUB to life?
As a perfectionist, one of the biggest challenges
was learning to see perfection in progress, even
when that meant tearing something down and
rebuilding it until it was right. Another challenge
was carefully selecting multiple brands that speak
the same language of quality and innovation.
Reflex is one of your main brands at the HUB—what
makes it stand out in the market?
Reflex is a statement brand—its vision and
creativity produce iconic pieces that immediately
elevate and define any space. It’s a natural
fit for the level of design IF HUB represents.
Reflex is an Italian luxury furniture brand that
blends centuries-old Venetian artistry—most
notably Murano glass craftsmanship—with bold
contemporary design, creating statement pieces
that are as sculptural as they are functional.
The official opening is set for the end of October—
what can people expect from this launch?
They can expect more than an opening—they’ll
experience a journey through the stories of each
brand we’ve curated. Every corner of IF HUB will
reveal how luxury truly sits in simplicity, where
refined details and thoughtful design speak louder
than excess. It’s a showcase of the craftsmanship,
innovation, and timeless elegance that define
what IF HUB stands for. I would like to give special
thanks to Architect Peter Caruso, whose expertise
has been invaluable in bringing IF HUB to life. From
the very first moment I envisioned this space, his
guidance and insights have been instrumental in
shaping it into what it is today.

In your opinion, what sets
IF HUB apart from other
creative and collaborative
spaces in Dubai?
At IF HUB, you truly have
everything under one roof.
It’s a curated destination
designed to save time,
inspire creativity, and give
professionals the perfect
space to plan, source, and
execute their projects. It’s
a place where ideas come
to life and collaboration
happens naturally.
Looking ahead, what’s your
long-term vision for IF HUB
and your role in shaping
design-driven communities?
My vision is to build a
design-driven community
that not only supports
emerging designers and
curates standout brands,
but also elevates the real
estate market by integrating
innovation, craftsmanship,
and timeless design.
Through IF HUB, I aim to
create a platform that
strengthens the entire
industry and sets new
standards for excellence.
Ultimately, I want IF HUB
to be a destination where
creativity, functionality,
and inspiration coexist
seamlessly.

AS FADY FRIBERG APTLY PUTS IT:
From its carefully curated brands to the thoughtfully designed spaces that
spark collaboration, IF HUB is more than a showroom—it’s a vibrant hub where
people, ideas, and inspiration intersect. Every corner has been crafted with
intention, designed not just to showcase products, but to foster meaningful
connections, ignite creativity, and empower architects, designers, and
creative professionals to bring their visions to life.
As IF HUB opens its doors at the end of October in Umm Suqeim, Dubai, it
becomes more than a destination—it becomes a community. A place where
conversations flourish, collaborations are born, and inspiration is shared
at every turn. Here, design is not only seen, but felt; not only created, but
experienced.

AEDAS MIDDLE EAST
FROM START TO SUCCESS
From a small town in Southern Spain to
Global Design Principal at Aedas Middle
East, Ignacio Gómez’s path has been
shaped by persistence and curiosity. He
was captivated by architecture at age
seven after visiting an architect’s studio
with his father—a revelation that turned
a childhood fascination into a lifelong
vocation. After studies in Madrid, Sweden,
and Barcelona, he moved to Dubai in
2006, where the scale and ambition of
the region transformed his practice.
Ignacio learned early that architecture is
not a solo pursuit but a collective effort,
honed through mentors and peers who
helped shape his design philosophy. Over
nearly two decades, he has contributed to
redefining the architectural identity of the
Middle East, leading projects from Dubai
Metro stations to visionary destinations
in Saudi Arabia. Today, he leads Aedas’
creative direction in the region, driving
innovation while staying rooted in cultural
authenticity.
A
edas Middle East
is entering a
transformative phase,
expanding its influence across
cultural, hospitality, and large-
scale masterplan projects.
In Saudi Arabia, the firm is
reimagining historic cities by
blending heritage with modern
urban systems, while in the
UAE it is leading residential
and creative clusters, including
Dubai Design District’s first
residential offering. Transport
remains a key focus, with
future rail and suspended
mobility projects set to
reshape urban connectivity.
Technology—through AI-driven
tools, parametric design,
and VR—is revolutionizing
workflows. Beyond projects,
Aedas is committed to people,
strengthening mentorship,
gender diversity, and nurturing
the next generation of
architects to advance these
ideas.
On the Horizon
Leading with Impact
Ignacio’s leadership is grounded in accessibility, mentorship, and belief in people. He
rejects the notion of architecture as a one-man show, instead seeing teams as the true
drivers of design. His role is to create the conditions for success—clarity of purpose, high
standards, and the courage to challenge assumptions. He encourages colleagues to work
without ego, listen closely, and let context guide solutions. Hands-on and committed to
quality at every stage, Ignacio also places mentorship at the heart of his practice, taking
pride in seeing interns grow into leaders. For him, leadership is not about visibility but
continuity—building resilient, creative teams capable of shaping the next era of design.

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE
EXCELLENCE
For Ignacio, every project
is a learning opportunity,
regardless of scale. He
approaches each with
equal seriousness,
whether a landmark
development or a modest
commission. NEOM’s
Trojena Ski Village in
Saudi Arabia stands
out as a breakthrough
in designing with
nature, merging vertical
urbanity with pristine
mountain landscapes.
The Red Palace in Riyadh
transforms one of the
Kingdom’s most historic
sites into a boutique hotel,
redefining adaptive reuse
in a region dominated
by new builds. Equally
formative have been
projects in the UAE, such
as the ENOC Futuristic
Station at Dubai Expo,
or earlier works in
Khorfakkan and Al Seef
Dubai. These experiences
reinforce his belief that
design is never just about
form or function but about
learning—each project
adding new layers of
knowledge, perspective,
and responsibility.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Looking ahead, his vision is
to expand Aedas’ influence
westward into North Africa and
Europe while remaining rooted
in the Middle East. He sees the
future of architecture shaped by
sustainability, technology, and
cultural identity. For him, true
sustainability means rethinking
how we design, build, and
consume, beyond certifications.
Technology—AI and autonomous
systems—will redefine mobility,
free land, and accelerate design
cycles. Yet cultural authenticity
must remain central, ensuring
projects belong to their place.
He believes architects will
play a critical role in mediating
between these forces, creating
environments that are resilient,
functional, and emotionally
resonant, while staying adaptive
and true to enduring human
values.

STUDIO BRUNO GUELAFF + BG GROUP
Born in New York to French parents, Bruno Guélaff grew up with a dual heritage that shaped
his global perspective on design. Initially studying sociology, he developed the philosophy of
“design with empathy,” viewing architecture as an emotional as well as functional discipline.
At NYSID, he refined this vision, earning the inaugural B.F.A. Travel Prize and exploring how
culture shapes space across 20 cities in 15 countries. In 2008, Bruno relocated to Dubai and
founded Studio Bruno Guelaff, a boutique practice that quickly gained recognition for its
soulful and award-winning architecture. He later joined forces with Khalid Kaluti to establish

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE
Bruno Guélaff’s portfolio features standout projects that sharply embody
his design philosophy, blending creativity, context, and innovation into
timeless works.. La Maison Horizontale in Sobha Hartland exemplifies
his commitment to integrating nature into daily living. Designed with
expansive horizontality, clean geometry, and natural light, it blurs the
boundaries between indoors and outdoors, creating a sanctuary that feels
both open and grounded. The BG LUX Villa in Pearl Jumeirah embodies
bold architectural expression, balancing monolithic form with intimacy,
creating a residence that is both striking and profoundly inhabitable.
Beyond private villas, Bruno’s work with The Chedi Private Residences
reflects his ability to translate empathy-driven design into signature
residential projects, merging timeless elegance with cultural sensitivity.
Each project underscores his philosophy: architecture must move
beyond spectacle to deliver spaces that resonate emotionally and stand
the test of time. Together, these works define a portfolio that bridges
restraint with richness, shaping a new benchmark for sincerity and
sophistication in the region’s architectural landscape.

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE
Michael’s career is defined by projects that not only
embody luxury but also advance design innovation in the
region. The Karl Lagerfeld Villas in Dubai marked the
fashion house’s first Middle Eastern residential venture,
establishing a benchmark for branded living. Beyond
luxury, subtle details infused with Lagerfeld’s personality,
such as tailored spatial compositions and signature design
motifs, set a new standard for fashion-driven architecture.
Equally transformative is the Armani Hotel & Residences
at Diriyah Gate, where Michael introduced the “Tower
of Light.” Its dynamic perforated façade ensures no two
moments are the same, blending Najdi cultural expression
with Armani’s sleek modernism. This synthesis of tradition
and cutting-edge design demonstrates how branded design
can be both contextual and globally iconic.
Finally, the Nobu Hotel & Residences on Saadiyat Island
bridges cultures by weaving Emirati nuances into Nobu’s
minimalist Japanese aesthetic.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Looking to the future, Michael
envisions architecture as a
driver of sustainable lifestyles,
technological integration,
and cultural exchange. His
long-term vision for RSP
centers on expanding the
firm’s global presence while
reinforcing its position as a
leader in the Middle East’s
evolving design landscape.
He sees growth opportunities
not only in Saudi Arabia’s
ambitious giga-projects but
also across Asia, where
rising markets are seeking
innovative and sustainable
design solutions.
He remains dedicated to
mentorship, empowering the
next generation of architects
to embrace sustainability and

road ahead is about creating
a forward-looking practice
that shapes the future of how
we live, work, and connect.

Founder & Design Director,
VALCARCE ARCHITECTS
Leading with Impact
For Alina Valcarce, leadership is not about standing above—it’s about standing with her team. She believes creativity
flourishes when people feel trusted, inspired, and encouraged to bring their ideas forward. At Valcarce Architects,
collaboration and inclusivity are at the heart of everything she does. She sees her role as guiding vision, but also
listening, mentoring, and creating space for innovation to thrive.
For Alina, architecture is a dialogue between people and nature, and she carries that philosophy into the way she leads.
Being recognised among the Global 200 Women Power Leaders 2024 reinforced the importance of paving the way for
more women in the industry. Her goal is to inspire not only her team, but also peers and the next generation, to push
boundaries responsibly—building a profession where innovation, equality, and sustainability are at the core.
FROM START TO SUCCESS
Born in Cuba and raised in Spain, Alina Valcarce
has always seen architecture as a bridge between
cultures and perspectives. Her studies and career
took her across the UK, China, India, and Vietnam,
with each experience adding depth to her design
philosophy. Founding Valcarce Architects was
a defining milestone, transforming a dream into
reality and establishing a practice that now works
across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and
Miami, USA.
Driven by curiosity, passion, and a strong belief
that architecture is more than just buildings,
Alina focusses on creating spaces that shape how
people live, feel, and connect. Recognitions such
as Emerging Architecture Firm of the Year 2024
stand as milestones in her journey, yet for her,
the true reward lies in seeing ideas that began as
sketches come alive, evolving into meaningful
places for people to enjoy.
W
hat excites Alina most right
now is what’s still to come. She
and her team are working on
new residential and hospitality projects
across Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam—
each with its own story and vision. In
Saudi, they are designing projects that will
redefine modern living by blending luxury
with sustainability and technology. Their

standard for prefabricated, eco-conscious
hospitality. In Dubai, they are shaping
towers that merge resort-style comfort
with the energy of the city, creating
spaces where people can truly live, relax,
and connect.
Beyond projects, Alina is deeply focussed
on research and innovation—exploring
modular systems, net-zero strategies, and

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE
EXCELLENCE
Every project Alina takes on has something special,
but some truly mark a turning point. Gaia – Luxury
Habitat is one of them: a prefabricated lodge concept
designed for harmony with nature, reducing waste
while blending beautifully into any environment, from
beaches to jungles. Then came NEOM Mansions on the
coast of Aqaba, which was a creative journey unlike
anything else. It pushed her to imagine beyond limits,
creating spaces that combine innovation, artistry,
and natural beauty in ways the industry hasn’t seen
before. The energy in the studio was electric—every
team member felt they were contributing to something
groundbreaking, and that spirit is unforgettable. Finally,
Breeze by Danube in Dubai proved what can be achieved
with precision and determination: delivered at record
speed yet with outstanding quality and design. These
projects capture what drives Alina—pioneering ideas,
teamwork, and a deep connection to nature.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Looking forward, Alina’s vision is to grow Valcarce Architects into a global voice for innovation, creativity, and sustainability. The firm’s footprint
is expanding across the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Americas, and with each new project, they are bridging cultures and shaping
communities. Alina believes the future of architecture lies in prefabrication, modularity, and regenerative design—where buildings don’t just
reduce impact but actively contribute back to the environment. Cities will continue evolving toward net-zero, and she sees architects leading that
transformation.
For Alina, the ultimate goal is to design places that go beyond beauty: spaces that improve lives, protect ecosystems, and inspire people. She
views architecture not as static, but as a living dialogue between humans and nature, technology and tradition. The road ahead is about carrying this
philosophy forward, scaling creativity, and leaving a legacy of meaningful, responsible, and visionary design.

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE
Nabil’s development blueprint began with
FIVE Palm Jumeirah, completed in 2016. This
architectural icon redefined beachfront
living with a bold, cascading amphitheatre
design that keeps every guest visually
connected to the central pool deck. In
2019, he introduced FIVE Jumeirah Village, a
patented corkscrew tower with 501 ‘Villas in
the Sky,’ later becoming the most-reviewed
hotel worldwide on Booking.com. In 2020,
Akiki expanded into Europe with FIVE Zurich,
transforming a heritage landmark into a
lifestyle destination while preserving its
façade and creating Zurich’s only 5-star
outdoor pool. In 2023, following FIVE’s
acquisition of The Pacha Group, Akiki led the
redesign of Destino Pacha Ibiza, reopening
in 2025 as Destino Five Ibiza.
His vision ensures sustainability is
embedded into every contract, construction
method, and operational system. Beginning
with FIVE Palm Jumeirah’s LEED Platinum
design in 2014, this philosophy now
guides all FIVE developments, with on-site
wastewater treatment, energy-efficient
HVAC, solar integration, and circular material
sourcing as standard. His ability to merge
luxury with advanced green building
performance has defined FIVE’s pioneering
‘Global Sustainable Entertainment
Ecosystem.’ Across Dubai, Zurich, and Ibiza,
his leadership has redefined how lifestyle-
driven real estate is conceived, executed,
and monetised by transforming ambitious
design concepts into market-leading assets
that not only win awards, but consistently
outperform in revenue, guest engagement,
and ESG performance.
Destino Five Ibiza, where luxury living

M
oving forward, FIVE is pioneering next-
generation hospitality developments that
merge sustainability, wellness, and technology.
Upcoming projects focus on regenerative innovative
design processes, net-zero energy systems, and embracing
spaces that enhance guest entertainment and well-being
experiences while reducing environmental impact.
The group is integrating innovative technologies, creative
designs, adopting advanced construction methodologies,
and well-being-centered placemaking to redefine luxury as
responsible, future-ready living. These initiatives embody
FIVE’s commitment to leading innovation in design and real
estate, shaping the evolution of global hospitality.
After Nabil has successfully led the transformational
redesign of Destino Pacha Hotel Ibiza, he is now leading
the group’s latest development — Casa Pacha Residences,
a new collection of branded residences in Ibiza that
will extend FIVE’s immersive living experience into the
residential segment. Casa Pacha Residences will offer
high-end beachfront living that celebrates community,
connection, and cultural authenticity, while meeting the
performance standards of a globally recognised lifestyle
brand.

She believes young architects thrive when entrusted with real responsibilities—not just tasks, but true ownership. With the
right support and guidance, they gain confidence, develop critical thinking, and evolve into strong, independent designers.
Lama views a successful team as one built on respect, trust, and a shared commitment to excellence. By nurturing a culture
where creativity is valued and ideas are challenged constructively, innovation becomes a natural outcome. For her, leadership
is less about directing every step and more about empowering others to lead, learn, and leave their mark—building teams that

Jason Burnside
Partner
GODWIN AUSTEN JOHNSON
FROM START TO SUCCESS
Jason Burnside’s journey began in
the UK, where studying architecture
taught him to value both technical
precision and creative vision.
More than 25 years ago, he moved
to the Middle East at a time of
extraordinary transformation. The
ambition, scale, and cultural depth
of projects in the region shaped him
profoundly.
Joining Godwin Austen Johnson
was a pivotal moment. Jason grew
from project architect to Managing
Director, learning that leadership is
about balancing vision with delivery,
creativity with accountability.
Designing the Godwin Austen
Johnson headquarters 18 years ago
was a symbolic milestone—an open,
light-filled, collaborative space
that embodied the culture the firm
wanted to build.
His milestones are not only
measured in buildings, but also
in the culture of accountability,
collaboration, and design integrity
that has been cultivated. Today, with
around 110 staff, including more than
80 permanently based in the studio,
that culture remains inclusive,
trusting, and transparent.
Some of Jason’s key achievements
stem from education and cultural
projects that set new standards
in sustainability and creativity,
showing that architecture can
inspire, inform, and endure.
Leading with
Impact
For Jason, leadership is about
example, not instruction.
His role is to set direction,
remove barriers, and ensure
people feel supported and
empowered. At Godwin Austen
Johnson, inclusivity, trust,
and high standards are not
abstract ideals—they are lived
daily. The firm’s structure
provides stability, but it is
never heavy-handed; creativity
thrives when people feel free
to take ownership of their
work.
The open-plan studio
embodies this philosophy:
senior staff sit alongside
juniors, ensuring mentorship
happens naturally in the flow
of work. Walking through
the studio each day is not
just routine for Jason, but a
chance to engage, encourage,
and share ideas. Inspiration
often comes in those small,
unplanned moments—a
sketch on a screen, a passing
conversation, or a word of
encouragement.
Godwin Austen Johnson is a
multicultural, family-oriented
practice where collaboration is
as important as accountability.
Over the years, Jason has
learned that when leadership
leads by example, people don’t
just meet expectations—they
surpass them. For him, that
is what defines impact in
architecture and in business.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Godwin Austen Johnson envisions a future of architecture defined by adaptability, creativity, and cultural
authenticity. The firm is expanding its presence in the Gulf and other markets that value design excellence,
while embedding sustainability in every aspect of its practice—from optimising daylight and conserving
energy to eliminating single-use plastics. Globally recognised for its projects and ethos, Godwin Austen
Johnson believes lasting impact stems from collaboration, context, and innovation, creating architecture
that inspires and endures for future generations.

For Anil, The Luxury Collection in Aqaba,
Jordan, marked a pivotal moment in his design
journey—it was the first project where the
interior concept fully embraced a meaningful
narrative. Drawing inspiration from the historic
port city of Alya, the design story permeated
every aspect of the hotel. From intricate
tapestries and exquisite Syrian furniture to
thoughtfully curated staff uniforms, each
detail paid homage to the region’s rich
heritage.
In contrast, the Marriott Hotel &

Anil the opportunity to explore a vibrant,
contemporary East African aesthetic. This
expansive property—featuring over six F&B
venues, a spa, and even a casino—allowed
him and his team to flex their design creativity
and deliver something truly iconic for the city.
Drawing from Kampala’s underground fashion

CEO & Founder
B8 ARCHITECTURE
FROM START TO SUCCESS
Kristina studied architecture in Spain, where
her passion for design merged with hands-on
experience in luxury residential projects. In 2015,
she founded B8 Architecture with the vision of
creating bespoke, high-end homes that unite
innovation, artistry, and cultural sensitivity. From a
small seven-person team in Spain to nearly seventy
in Dubai today, B8 delivers landmark villas and
hospitality projects worldwide, establishing itself as
a global reference in luxury design.
B
8 is expanding into new horizons—literally. Kristina recently traveled with clients to
Vanuatu to explore two private islands, where the firm will develop a boutique luxury
hospitality retreat and a residential family resort. This marks a new chapter for B8,
complementing its landmark villas with destination experiences. Having entered hospitality, the
firm is also pursuing collaborations with world-class hotels, a journey that promises to redefine
how lifestyle, culture, and luxury design are seamlessly merged.
On the Horizon

THE ROAD AHEAD
Kristina envisions B8 continuing to evolve
as a global leader in holistic luxury design,
expanding widely while maintaining intimacy.
Every project remains personal, every client
connection meaningful, and every design
timeless. As the industry shifts toward
wellness and experiential design, she sees the

ATI
Leading with Impact
Dilara’s leadership philosophy is centered on collaboration, inclusion, and empowerment. She believes successful
projects are built on teamwork and open communication, which is why she fosters a creative and supportive
environment that values diverse perspectives. Her core values are driven by a positive, “nothing is impossible” attitude
and a desire to positively impact communities through design, particularly in the educational and healthcare sectors.
Her approach goes beyond aesthetics, prioritizing user needs, functionality, and well-being to enhance experience. This
philosophy inspires the ATI team, as she dedicates time to mentoring young designers and serves as a role model for
women in architecture. By establishing a clear project vision and foundational design principles, she ensures the team is
aligned and equipped, reinforcing ATI’s position as a preferred partner for prestigious projects.

PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE
The defining projects that shape Dilara’s work fall into
categories with significant community impact, including
master-planned communities, healthcare, and educational
campuses. These projects are transformative because
her design philosophy transcends aesthetics, focusing
on blending user needs, functionality, and well-being to
create meaningful spaces. Educational and healthcare
developments are particularly significant, as their reach
positively affects many lives. Large-scale projects,
from high-rise residential to harbour developments,
are approached with a commitment to environmental
consciousness and cultural identity. The resulting portfolio
has earned numerous accolades, reflecting both design
excellence and alignment with community needs.
THE ROAD AHEAD
Dilara envisions an industry where architecture prioritises user experience, environmental consciousness, and positive community impact over
pure aesthetics. As the field evolves to become more technologically integrated and sustainable, success will depend on blending user needs,
functionality, and well-being into every space. For ATI, the path forward involves leveraging global expansion into emerging markets while leading in
the adoption of advanced building technologies and sustainable systems. Growth is guided by the firm’s core design philosophy—creating unique,
user-focused projects in healthcare, education, and other high-impact sectors—ensuring work that reflects human values, cultural identity, and
design excellence worldwide.

Founder
KIDZINK & KODA
KIDZINK OFFICE OF DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE
FROM START TO SUCCESS
Charlotte Borghesi began her entrepreneurial
journey in 2017, when she and her husband, Paolo,
purchased their children’s nursery along with a small
furniture trading license. With no prior experience
in education, architecture, or manufacturing—and
starting out with just one employee and a hard
drive—she focussed relentlessly on creating WOW
experiences rather than chasing profit metrics. This
vision led to the growth of Kidzink and KODA into
vertically integrated global companies, now spanning
the UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, Spain, Singapore, and
India, transforming how more than 850 schools
worldwide approach learning environments.
Leading

Her leadership philosophy
is built on trust,
ownership, and anti-
corporate values. She
has shaped a company
with no hierarchy, no KPIs,
and no formal reviews—
just empowered people
making bold decisions.
Hiring for cultural fit and
potential over credentials,
she fosters a culture of
integrity, innovation, and

Charlotte, leadership

expectations rather than
following rules.
PROJECTS
THAT DEFINE EXCELLENCE
In 2019, Charlotte Borghesi delivered her first
full school project valued at over 6 million AED,
proving that outsiders could successfully
redefine education design. She then transformed
the business model by establishing a 20,000sqm
vertically integrated manufacturing facility—the
region’s most advanced furniture operation—
featuring prototyping labs and 3D printing. This
shift eliminated reliance on slow, inflexible third-
party suppliers and positioned the company at
the forefront of innovation. Most transformative
has been the Beyond the Box research, a 40-year
literature review of 850+ projects, culminating
in the Enriched Environment Model, which
translates neuroscience into measurable design
principles.
T
he book Beyond the Box: How Neuroscience-Based
Design Can Transform the Learning Environment
introduces the Enriched Environment Model,
the world’s first framework integrating pedagogy,
neuroarchitecture, and environmental psychology.
Launched at the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture
Conference, the model categorizes design through four
measurable dimensions: Sensory, Motor, Cognitive, and
Socio-Emotional. With new offices opening in Singapore
and India, she is scaling this research-led approach globally,
while the expansion of her manufacturing operations
enables unprecedented speed and quality in reshaping
education worldwide.

upgrades. Meanwhile, the LK Nine Offices in Bahrain showcase how minimalism can convey
understated luxury in a commercial setting.
On the Horizon
DZ Design brings desert romance to life at Amaseena, a Ritz-Carlton oasis inspired
by Bedouin traditions, blending Arabic design with a warm, home-like ambience.

DZ Design’s core philosophy centres on fostering a creative
environment where the team enjoys the design process while
delivering exceptional hospitality and multi-family residential
projects. The firm believes true innovation arises when designers
have the freedom to explore layers of design, materials, and

consistently leads to unique, original concepts that stand out.
At the heart of the practice, however, remain hard work and an
unwavering dedication to providing the best for clients.

H
ow does Duravit create
value for designers and
projects beyond just
offering products?
What sets us apart is
our innovative spirit and very high
design standards. We are rooted in
two centuries of design heritage, yet
we always look forward. Each year, we
file several new patents worldwide,
reflecting our pioneering mindset and
providing designers with solutions
that give their concepts a compet-
itive and innovative edge. Beyond
innovation and product selection, we
support the A&D community with
guidance, technical expertise, and
personalised solutions to create
sustainable living spaces where the
highest quality and timeless design
combine to offer a unique sense of
harmony and longevity. Ultimately,
our goal is to elevate bathrooms into
lifestyle and wellness spaces, ena-
bling designers to add emotional and
experiential value to their projects.
The result is more than a bathroom: a
space of well-being and serenity that
carries a strong sustainability story.
Why are materiality, finishes, and
textures so important in interior de-
sign, and how does Duravit address
them?
For us at Duravit, design goes beyond
aesthetics. It’s about creating a feel-
ing, an emotional connection, a sense
of desirability. Incredible attention to
detail and the highest-quality materi-
als that engage the senses are what
make us stand out.
Our recently launched Balcoon
series by Patricia Urquiola reflects
this perfectly - new earthy ceramic
tones like Clay Terra Matt radiate
warmth and calmness, while striped
textures and timeless palettes enrich
the overall ambience.
Another example is the Vitrium toilet,
where the subtle surface pattern is
made possible through solid surface
material layering. These may seem like
small details, but they create depth,
richness, and emotional value. At
the end of the day, it’s about touch,
feel, and atmosphere shaping interior
experiences.
In terms of service and support, what makes Duravit a reliable
partner for the A&D community?
For designers, time, reliability, and the credibility we’ve built over many
years are critical. That’s where Duravit truly makes a difference.
As a global brand, we have specification specialists across key
markets that are highly experienced and knowledgeable about local
requirements. Whether a project is designed in Dubai but built in
Greece, or developed in Los Angeles with a site in Doha, our teams
in Singapore, London, New York, and beyond can step in quickly with
tailored support.
In the Middle East, our dedicated team manages logistics, sales, and
project flows to ensure expectations are always met. With multiple
production facilities around the world, we are agile, efficient, and
responsive, even with challenging timelines.
Designers also benefit from our professional digital platform, pro.du-
ravit.com, providing BIM data, technical drawings, specification details,
and high-quality images - saving time and making the design process
an exciting journey.
How do you balance sustainability with the need for long-lasting
quality in your solutions?
For Duravit, sustainability and long-lasting quality go hand in hand.
Every detail, from materials to manufacturing and technology, is
guided by durability.
Whether through our FreshStart and MinusFlow faucet tech-
nologies that reduce water and energy use, or our latest 4/2-liter
super-quiet flush in the ME by Starck Hero edition toilet, our products
are both aesthetically refined and environmentally responsible. >>>

We have set an ambitious goal
of becoming climate neutral
across the entire company
by 2045. A huge step in this
direction is our new produc-
tion facility in Matane, Canada,
opening later this year. It will
be the world’s first ceramics
factory with kilns powered
almost entirely by renewable
electricity. Moves like this not
only reduce our footprint but
also give designers confi-
dence that they are specify-
ing future-proof solutions for
their projects.
With technology reshap-
ing interiors, where do you
see the future of bathroom
design heading?
In our factories, technology
has been a key driver in imple-
menting innovative and sus-
tainable production processes
and developing new materials
such as our latest 2-in-1 easy-
care and antibacterial glaze
DuraShield® and others.
Smart and automated
solutions, especially those
supporting sustainability, will
continue to grow. We believe
bathrooms are evolving from
purely functional spaces
into wellness hubs - places
for relaxation and self-care.
Technology will play a central
role in this shift.
We already see this with the
rising demand for our Senso-
Wash smart toilets. They are
now widely specified not only
across residential and com-
mercial but also hospitality
projects where operators fo-
cus on optimising customers’
experience. A great example
would be Fairmont Doha, Qatar
and Nujuma, A Ritz- Carlton
Reserve in the Red Sea, KSA.
Looking ahead, bathrooms will
become even more person-
alised - a sanctuary within
fast-paced lives, where design
and technology come togeth-
er to promote well-being and
longevity.
What inspires you most
when collaborating with
architects and designers,
and how does this shape
Duravit’s role in projects?
Design is in our DNA - whether
it’s through our collaborations
with the leading designers
such as Philippe Starck, Anto-
nio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola
and others to co-create our
timeless bathroom collections
or the architects and design-
ers that we walk with on their
project journey. We really love
these collaborations! We love
their passion, their energy and
creativity that turns every
new project into a fresh and
inspiring story! Their ability to
translate context, culture, light
and movement into spaces
people actually feel pushes us
to act less like a supplier and
more like a creative collabo-
rator. From custom faucets
and bathtubs to personalised
furniture details, we listen
carefully to the narrative, stay
flexible, and adapt to each
project’s needs, ensuring
aesthetics, functionality,
sustainability, and emotional
impact.
Ultimately, that blend of
global perspective, iconic
collaborations, and respon-
sible materials shapes our
role on projects: to elevate
the overall experience, so
bathrooms transform into
spaces of harmony, comfort
and longevity.

Following its successful launch this year in Abu Dhabi,
we’ve seen firsthand the impact community-driven
design can have. We imagined Seed & Bloom as a true
extension of the community—a welcoming space
where guests could feel an immediate sense of
belonging, free to explore something new or pause for
a quiet moment.
Now, as the venue continues to flourish through
activations, workshops, collaborations with local
producers, and its growing popularity among
residents, it’s been incredible to watch the many
elements of our community-led design approach
come to life.
Community Driven Design
A standout feature of the venue is the visible
bakery & kitchen, giving guests a clear view of the
preparation area as they sip their coffee or share a
meal with friends. This was a deliberate choice to
celebrate the craft of baking openly, inviting curiosity
about the process and creating a tangible connection
between patrons and the artistry behind their food.
Instead of tucking this element away, we made it part
of the experience, letting the sight of ingredients and
process shape the atmosphere.
We also designed a dedicated community room,
which has become a central anchor for the venue’s
programme of workshops and events. This adaptable

space can serve as extra seating or be closed off for
private or hosted gatherings. From ceramics classes and
bread-making workshops to flower arranging, book clubs,
and community talks, its true beauty lies in its versatility—
able to transform with the needs of the neighbourhood
and community. The sell-out workshops since its opening,
particularly Seed & Bloom’s signature focaccia-making
sessions, are proof of how powerful these kinds of
elements can be for a restaurant’s success, both in driving
commercial results and fostering community value and
loyalty. The room’s design ensures that even when not in
use for events, it still feels like a natural, comfortable part of
the café.
Page 80

We also considered how
seating style and pace could
encourage flexible organic
interactions; whether guests
are catching up with their
own group or striking up
conversation with a neighbour
while waiting for their coffee,
they have the choice to dine,
dwell or perch throughout
the main dining area and
communal tables. For those on
the go, there’s a quick grab-
and-go organic communal
table for a short coffee break.
For guests who prefer to linger,
cosy banquettes and a warm,
open dining area invite them
to settle in.
We also introduced several
dayparting features, allowing
the space to shift seamlessly
from a bright daytime bakery
to a cosy evening restaurant,
keeping the atmosphere
dynamic from morning to
night. Working closely with
the founder, our team at
TGP International developed
our approach to ensure the
design remained functional,
adaptable, and ready to
support a variety of uses,
experiences, and needs.
Local Influences
Within the flow of the space
and the guest journey, we
carved out a dedicated retail
area where shelves showcase
goods and products from
homegrown businesses. This
zone was carefully integrated
so it feels natural yet distinct,
creating a place where local
makers can be championed.
Early partners included
Mazara Farm Shop and
the Unwrapped Store, both
featuring goods and crafted
pieces made here in the
UAE, and many more organic
collaborations have followed
since the venue’s opening.
We believe this approach
gives guests an immediate
sense of place the moment
they step inside. It was
important that the space not
only look rooted in Abu Dhabi
but also actively support and
celebrate the people who call
it home.
We also wanted the setting
to feel seamlessly tied to Abu
Dhabi’s natural landscape. One
of our inspirations was the
desert hyacinth—a plant that
thrives in this region despite
the challenging climate.
Remarkably, the desert
hyacinth draws nutrients from
surrounding plants, relying on
a host to bloom.
That idea of interdependence
resonated with us; much like
the flower, Seed & Bloom
flourishes through the

support and connection of its community.
Just as the hyacinth thrives within a network
of relationships, the café is enriched by the
people around it.
This vision also played a central role in
shaping our colour palette. Visitors will
notice soft, layered yellow tones threaded
throughout the café, paired with organic,
warm textures set against more refined,
structured materials—a nod to the desert
hyacinth’s delicate blooms emerging from a
resilient environment.
Botanical references continue in the natural
floral panels and hand-pressed artwork
featuring local flora. Together, these details,
from a colour story rooted in a desert bloom,
to textures that evoke craft, to motifs that
honour native plant life, give the space its
distinctive character. Even if not consciously
recognised, we believe they create a quiet
sense of comfort, meaning, and connection for
everyone who walks through the door.
Reflecting on TGP International’s 360°
capabilities, the project came to life
through the combined effort of multiple
teams and disciplines, with our restaurant
management team continuing to oversee
day-to-day operations. In many ways, it
grew from our shared values and expertise
as a community, strengthened by the
creativity and passion of colleagues across
the company. From concept, naming, and
brand development to interior design, build
oversight, and pre-opening strategy, it was
a chance to draw on talent from every
corner of the business.

inspired
your
design
approach
for the
Horizon Residences at VELA
Viento by OMNIYAT?
The design concept, Sand
Meets Wind, was born from the
environment that surrounds the
building, the softness of the desert
landscape and the movement of air
and light across it. We wanted to
translate that natural rhythm into
architecture and interiors that feel
sculpted, quiet, and fluid. The idea
wasn’t to simply create a luxurious
space, but to create a sanctuary
in the sky, something grounded,
refined, and emotionally resonant.
How did you merge traditional
craftsmanship with modern
minimalism in this project?
Rather than pursuing minimalism
in the strict sense, we focussed
on restraint, allowing form,
material, and craft to speak without
distraction. Every element within
each residence is the result of
refined workmanship, from the
hand-finished travertine to the
finger-jointed oak panelling and
sculptural joinery. Traditional
techniques are reinterpreted
through a modern lens, not through
ornate gestures but with precision
and material clarity.
The spaces are intentionally
neutral and calm, providing a quiet
canvas where select focal points
carry deeper meaning. In those
moments, we introduce traditional
craft or details that speak to heritage
and technique, elevated to the
highest standard. The result is a
language that feels warm, highly
crafted, and enduring. .>>>

Interview
What key features of
the Horizon Residences
reflect “elevated living”?
The entire experience is
designed around quiet
elevation. You arrive
through a private lift lobby
into sculpted entrance
halls with silver travertine
floors and rough plaster
ceilings. Kitchens feel like
standalone design objects,
bronze detailing, curved
volumes, architectural
stone. The volumes are
expansive but never
overwhelming and spaces
are composed to bring
softness and proportion to
the forefront. Thoughtfully
integrated art, collectible
furniture, and handcrafted
finishes speak to a lifestyle
of intention, not display.
How did you consider
the surrounding Marasi
Bay destination and
views of the canal and
Dubai’s landmarks in your
interior layouts?
VELA Viento’s site offers
a rare duality: on one
side, the full skyline of
Downtown Dubai; on the
other, the calmness of
Marasi Bay and the desert
beyond. This duality
became a guiding principle
in our design; spaces are
arranged to frame those
views and let light move
freely. Materials respond to
that softness; natural stone,
textured timber, and warm
plaster surfaces create a
calm counterpoint to the
dynamic city beyond the
glass. The terraces were
designed as true extensions
of the interior, encouraging
uninterrupted living
between inside and out.
What challenges did
you face designing for
simplex and duplex units?
The primary challenge
was achieving consistency
without repetition. The
duplex units are naturally
more segmented, with
height, staircases, and
architectural thresholds
shaping the experience.
The single-level residences
(simplex) offer an open
flow, which required
a refined approach to
proportion and zoning.
We used the same core
material language across
both, eucalyptus, silver
travertine, bronze but
tuned the layouts, lighting,
and rhythm of each space
to its specific spatial
experience. Nothing was
reduced, only distilled.
How does your
collaboration with
OMNIYAT and Foster +
Partners influence the
project’s overall vision?
Collaborating with
OMNIYAT and Foster
+ Partners created a
rare synergy between
architecture, interiors,
and intent. The building’s
sculptural form inspired
us in designing several of
the architectural interior
details. It informed the
shapes and curvatures
within the spaces, such
as the ceiling coffers
and curved walls. This
came from the freedom
to respond with equally
expressive interiors.
Everything from the flow
of the volumes to how light
enters and moves through
the space shaped our
approach.
OMNIYAT’s commitment
to quality and detail aligns
naturally with our own.
There is an unspoken
understanding that every
decision matters. Foster
+ Partners always aim to
create buildings that are
both unique and iconic. The
same applies to Banda and
our aspiration to design
spaces that are unexpected
yet remarkably timeless.
That shared ambition
allowed us to design not
just a home, but a complete
spatial experience.
