EDITOR’S NOTE
LNME
T
he past week has seemed like a sudden rush of
work after everyone recuperated from their leisurely
summer vacations. And at this moment, we could
say everyone is "back to business." With that, BNC
Publishing inaugurated the first event of the season
on August 31, 2023, after the staging of the Sustainability
Innovation Forum and Sustainability Innovation Awards.
Industry experts from the UAE, KSA, Oman, and other
countries attended both events.
While I prepared to chair a panel at the Sustainability
Innovation Forum, meeting industry executives and
getting to know the market in a more casual and intimate
setting was rather refreshing.
I was thrilled that the event attracted some of the logistics
industry's most influential players.
But if you were to ask me, what was it that I brought
home that day? It was networking at its core. You never
know where a connection might lead you because of
the simple ties that you make. Perhaps someone wants
something from me, or perhaps I would need something
from them in the future. But I genuinely think that
building a connection should never be done for gain.
But do people actually act in that way? If you ask me,
I don't know. Do they need to do that? Of course not,
yet they continue to. Building relationships has always
been a complicated process for me. However, adhering
to my ideals, here we are, gearing up to host our first
networking event for the logistics and supply chain
industry.
On September 22, 2023, we will be hosting LNME
Connect, a gathering for those working in the sector to
interact, network, and meet one another. The following
night, we will witness the Logistics & Transport Awards
2023. Officially, let the events season kick-off!

HL Global Forwarding, the
leading logistics provider
worldwide, announces
a successful partnership
with the UAE’s leading
commercial vehicle
and machinery company, FAMCO, to
introduce the Volvo Electric FM Truck in
the Middle East as a testament to their
commitment to sustainable logistics
solutions. This marks DHL’s deployment
of the first Volvo truck in its UAE fleet
after having already deployed over 50
Volvo trucks in its European fleet.
The signing ceremony for this partner-
ship took place at the DHL MEA Innova-
tion Center on August 24. DHL Global
Forwarding and FAMCO officials, in the
presence of several dignitaries. DHL
Global Forwarding’s partnership with
FAMCO in the UAE reinforces a shared
vision of promoting sustainable logis-
tics. This agreement underscores DHL
Group and FAMCO’s proactive stance
in shaping the industry’s future through
innovation and sustainable solutions.
DHL wants to reduce all logistics-relat-
ed emissions to net zero by 2050. It is
doing this by committing to a set green-
house gas (GHG) emissions target by
2030 in line with the Paris Agreement,
investing EUR 7 billion to reach it. This
investment will be used to increase its
use of sustainable aviation fuels, design
all new buildings to be carbon neutral,
offer a comprehensive portfolio of green
products and electrify 60% of its last-
mile delivery by 2030.
DHL already has over 30,000 e-vehi-
cles for pickup and delivery in opera-
tion. The logistics leader also plans to
increase the use of sustainable fuels in
air, ocean and road transportation to
more than 30% by 2030. Furthermore,
DHL will offer sustainable alternatives
for 100% of all core products and solu-
tions.
Tobias Maier, CEO of Saloodo! MEA
stated, “Our partnership with FAMCO is
a testament to our commitment to revo-
lutionizing the logistics industry through
sustainability and innovation. As we
progress towards achieving net-zero
carbon emissions by 2050, DHL remains
steadfast in delivering smart, sustainable
solutions to our customers.”
The Volvo Electric FM Truck, a prod-
uct of FAMCO’s role as the exclusive
distributor of Volvo trucks, buses, and
construction equipment in the UAE,
boasts impressive capabilities. With a
Gross Combination Weight of up to 44
tons and a remarkable range of 300 kilo-
metres, its driveline performance of up
to 490 kW / 666 hp ensures efficiency
and reliability. Notably, the truck’s rapid
charging time of 2.5 hours (DC) and 9.5
hours (AC) minimizes downtime, making
it a valuable asset in logistics.
Ramez Hamdan, the Managing Direc-
tor of FAMCO, shared his enthusiasm,
stating, “Witnessing our second Volvo
FM Electric Truck in the UAE market and
first integrated into DHL’s fleet is truly a
momentous occasion. Thanks to world-
class partners and global leaders like
DHL, FAMCO is proud to accelerate the
transportation and logistics industry’s
big shift and lead the category’s electri-
fication.”
Introducing the Volvo Electric FM
Truck into DHL’s operational framework
represents a decisive stride towards ful-
filling the company’s long-term sustain-
ability objectives. Partnering with FAM-
CO is another step towards achieving
DHL’s ambitious sustainability targets.
The truck will primarily operate in and
around Dubai, serving as a pre-carriage
solution towards the UAE’s new multi-
modular rail initiative, Etihad Rail.

A
mid swelling population
growth – which is forecast
to cross 5.8 million by 2040
– and evolving consumer ex-
pectations for homes, Dubai
Holding Asset Management,
a key contributor to the
growth and development of the business
and tourism sectors in the UAE, has an-
nounced community enhancement projects
across its portfolio of 15 residential assets
over the course of 2023.
Robust cross-sector activity, economic
resilience, and unparalleled quality of life
make Dubai an increasingly attractive city
to call home, reflected in a population
surge of nearly 100,000 between July
2022 and July 2023 and demand across
Dubai’s property market.
Dubai Holding Asset Management’s
planned enhancements include the
development of EV charging stations
and new sports courts and aim
to ensure the Group’s residential
communities advance the Dubai 2040
Urban Master Plan’s goals to provide
sustainable urban development and
enhanced living standards to the city’s
residents.
Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Managing
Director of Residential Communities
– Dubai Holding Asset Management,
said: “The booming property market
echoes one undeniable truth – Dubai is
the place to be. Professionals, investors,
entrepreneurs, and families flock to the
emirate to benefit from its abundant
economic opportunities.
“As the Dubai Economic Agenda ‘D33’
amplifies this activity, adhering to the
Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan to ensure
inclusive, sustainable urban development
for existing and future residents is non-
negotiable. To prepare for this future,
while catering to the changing needs of
the 100,000+ individuals who already
reside within our neighbourhoods, we
are investing in widespread community
enhancement initiatives that contribute
to resident happiness and ensure our
communities serve as models of the Dubai
2040 vision.”
EV Charging Stations
Dubai Holding Asset Management
is rolling out EV charging stations
(EVCSs) across its residential portfolio
in collaboration with Dubai Electricity
& Water Authority (DEWA), starting
with dedicated charging stations across
the Ghoroob community in Mirdif. The
move responds to rapidly rising demand
for EVs from UAE residents and supports
the country’s environmental initiatives

that means ensuring they have
the infrastructure they need
to live their core values. The
newly installed stations mean
that residents of Ghoroob who
wish to invest in EVs now have
fewer barriers to doing so.”
Sports courts and play areas
Consumers worldwide
– millennials and Gen-Z
in particular – are now
more actively invested in
maintaining their health and
wellness. Dubai Holding Asset
Management aims to ensure
its residents can conveniently
access world-class sports
courts, gyms and facilities as
more individuals prioritise
physical activity and group
sports.
Al Khail Gate, an affordable
family housing community in
Al Quoz, is making way for
an upcoming tennis court,
adding to its existing selection
of basketball, football and
volleyball courts. Furthermore,
refurbishment is underway at
the sports courts and children’s
play areas in communities like
Shorooq, Ghoroob, Remraam,
Layan and Al Khail Gate.
This includes enhancements
to flexible and dedicated
tennis and football courts in
the districts and the 90-metre
jogging track in Layan.
Landscaping and greenery
As part of Dubai 2040’s
mandate to double the size
of green and recreational
areas in the emirate, Dubai
Holding Asset Management
is enhancing common green
spaces, landscaped areas and
courtyards in family-friendly
communities like Shorooq,
Ghorob, Nuzul, Layan
and Al Khail Gate as well
as the upscale, waterfront
neighbourhood, Dubai Wharf.
Along with soft and hard
landscaping projects, planned
enhancements include new
seating spaces where residents
can comfortably enjoy calming
common areas.
“People are more appreciative
of nature in urban centres than
ever before,” said Al Suwaidi.
“Connecting with green
environments has countless
health benefits, and people
increasingly value properties
with access to parks, gardens
and landscaped spaces. We
have always made it a point
to maximise the availability
of green spaces in our
communities and remain
committed to investing in their
maintenance and enhancement
so that our residents can find
respite close to home.”
Safety and Security
Dubai is recognised as one
of the world’s safest cities
to live and work in due to
the high quality of security
infrastructure cascaded
across the emirate through
public and private sector
efforts. Dubai Holding Asset
Management is investing in
installing and upgrading high-
quality safety features across
its communities to strengthen
Dubai’s position as one of the
safest global cities to call home.
The new enhancements will
include upgrading firefighting
installations, strategic
CCTV and security coverage
networks, and enhanced street
lighting to offer enhanced
visibility and security.
Infrastructure
Further infrastructure and
beautification projects have
been planned as part of the
enhancement programme
by Dubai Holding Asset
Management to uplift the
communities and ensure they
remain attractive and up-
to-date for their residents.
Carparks and common
areas, such as lobbies and
facility rooms, will undergo
refurbishment, while existing
roadways will be renewed
to enhance connectivity and
comfort.
Dubai Holding Asset
Management provides a
spectrum of strategically
located housing, from studio
apartments to luxury villas,
to over 100,000 people. Its
assets include premium living
at Layan, Dubai Wharf,
Manazel Al Khor, City Walk,
and Bluewaters, family
communities at Ghoroob
Square, Ghoroob, Shorooq,
Bayti Villas, and Remraam, as
well as the value community
of Al Khail Gate in addition
to the staff accommodation at
Prospect Heights and labour
camps at Nuzul and Al Quoz.

I
n the fast-paced world of logistics and
supply chain management, efficiency is
the name of the game. As the demands
of e-commerce and global commerce
continue to escalate in the region,
warehouses may face the challenge
of maintaining high productivity
levels while ensuring accurate inventory
management and order fulfilment. Enter
big data analytics—a technological
powerhouse that has revolutionised
warehouse operations.
Traditionally, warehouse management
relied on experience, intuition, and
reactive strategies. However, adopting big
data analytics is a game-changer in an era
defined by data. By tapping into vast pools
of past and real-time data, warehouses
can extract valuable insights that drive
decision-making. This transition from
intuition to data-driven strategies has led
to a paradigm shift, where businesses can
anticipate demand trends, adapt to market
fluctuations, and optimise operations for
peak performance. By leveraging data
to streamline inventory management,
enhance order-picking processes, and
optimise space utilisation, warehouses
are redefining what’s possible in terms of
operational excellence.
The heart of a warehouse lies in its
inventory. Accurate stock levels are
not only crucial for meeting customer
demands but also for maintaining cost
efficiency. With the help of data analytics,
warehouses can analyse historical sales
patterns, customer behaviours, and
market trends. This deep dive into data
facilitates accurate demand forecasting,
ensuring that the right products are in
the right place at the right time. Excess
inventory and stockouts, once the bane of
warehousing, are now minimised as data
UNLOCKING EFFICIENCY

HOW BIG DATA ANALYTICS IS TRANSFORMING
WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS

UNLOCKING EFFICIENCY | HOW BIG DATA ANALYTICS IS TRANSFORMING WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS
insights guide inventory replenishment
strategies. This exactness leads to
significant cost savings, reduced carrying
costs, and a smoother supply chain.
The order-picking process represents
a critical juncture in warehouse
operations. Traditional methods often
involve labour-intensive, time-consuming
manual processes prone to errors.
Big data analytics has injected a new
level of efficiency into this process. By
analysing historical order patterns,
product popularity, and real-time demand
fluctuations, warehouses can optimise
the order-picking process. Intelligent
algorithms determine the most efficient
picking routes, minimising travel time
and maximising productivity. The
result? Faster order completion reduced
operational costs and, of course, happier
customers.
Space utilisation is a puzzle that
warehouse managers constantly strive
to solve. With the rise of e-commerce
and changing consumer preferences,
warehouses need to make the most of
every square foot. Big data analytics
offers a solution. By analysing data on
product dimensions, turnover rates, and
storage patterns, warehouses can design
layouts that optimise space usage. This
not only increases storage capacity but
also enhances workflow efficiency. With
data-backed insights, warehouses can
reconfigure storage locations, allocate
space intelligently, and ensure that high-
demand items are easily accessible. The
impact is clear: reduced congestion,
improved employee productivity, and a
more organised warehouse environment.
As we navigate the fourth industrial
revolution, where data is the new
currency, the convergence of big data
analytics and warehouse optimisation is
not just a technological advancement—
it’s a strategic necessity. Businesses that
embrace this transformation are poised
to thrive in an increasingly competitive
market. However, the journey toward
data-driven warehouse excellence
requires more than advanced technology.
It demands a cultural shift, where
data literacy becomes integral to the
organisational DNA. Leaders need to
empower their teams with the skills to
interpret data insights, make informed
decisions, and continuously refine
processes based on real-time feedback.
The age of big data analytics has led to
a new era of warehouse administration—
one characterised by accuracy, efficiency,
and strategic foresight. As we move
forward, the organisations that master
the art of data-driven warehouse
optimisation will survive and thrive in
an environment where proficiency is the
ultimate differentiator.

ith sustainability by design in mind, Henkel is
enabling the next generation of EV batteries.
The German multinational industrial and
consumer goods company develops some
of the automotive industry’s most crucial
advanced material innovations.
Mounting climate concerns and a
worldwide legislative push have led to surging demand
for electric vehicles (EVs), an upward trend expected to
continue in the coming decades. Globally, the number of
passenger EVs is projected to surpass 100 million by 2026
and 700 million by 2040.
Henkel, a longstanding partner of the global automotive
industry, offers a portfolio of more than 200 high-impact
solutions in adhesives, sealants, thermal management,
and functional coatings. The company’s materials and
technologies help improve the performance, reliability,
safety, and sustainability of cars and pave the way towards
zero-emission mobility in the future. Today more than
90% of new vehicles produced worldwide contain Henkel
solutions.
This long-term commitment to a greener future on our
roads was one reason for the launch of a new world-class
Battery Engineering Center at Henkel’s Inspiration Center
in Düsseldorf. Envisioned as a state-of-the-art laboratory
for developing next-generation electric vehicle (EV)
battery solutions, the Center has been designed to foster
open innovation and collaboration with OEMs (original

“Together, we aim to meet the EV
revolution’s call for next-generation battery
designs scoring high on performance, safety,
and sustainability. Close collaboration and
co-creation with customers and partners
are key success factors and part of our
DNA at Henkel. To address the industry’s
biggest challenges, we brought in experts
from the battery industry with deep know-
how in areas such as battery recycling,
integrated battery design, safety systems,
and cell manufacturing as part of Henkel’s
‘Fuel the Future’ team,” says George
Kazantzis, Global Head of the Automotive
Components business at Henkel.
Let’s take a look at some of the most critical
challenges in EV batteries and Henkel’s
innovative solutions:
> Thermal Management: Henkel has a
growing portfolio of thermal interface
materials, such as thermally conductive
adhesives and thermal gap fillers,
which keep the battery at its optimal
operating temperature and prevent
potential overheating.
> Battery Safety: In the unlikely case
of a fire event inside the battery pack,
Henkel’s battery safety materials, such
as coatings, potting, and pads, help
inhibit the spread of fire outside of the
battery to ensure that EV passengers
have sufficient time to exit the vehicle
safely.
> Battery Lifetime Performance:
Henkel’s conductive electrode coatings
enhance the battery cell efficiency by
reducing interfacial resistance and
improving electrode stability, while
our sprayable dielectric coatings ensure
electrical safety by insulating battery
cells. Both innovations contribute
to better battery performance and
reliability.

regional, and international companies can access a first-
of-its-kind premium digital and physical infrastructure
through the free zone, which offers a one-stop shop
for solutions. Dubai Commercial City also provides strategy
consulting, advice on local laws, and end-to-end logistics
solutions, including warehousing and last-mile delivery, in
addition to full business setup and customs support. Access to
complete digital commerce platform solutions, digital marketing
services, and other support services like advisory, photo studios,
call centres, and more are also available to different businesses.
Adopting Digital Transformation
Dubai Commercial City has made remarkable progress in
paving its way towards a comprehensive digital shift in light
of the world’s accelerating digital transformation. Last year,
the free zone unveiled its new strategic identity, focusing on
the ‘technology first’ transformation of its operations and
services to digital commerce. By doing this, the free zone has
successfully enabled the most aspirational brands in the world
to transform human experiences across the digital commerce
landscape. “Thus, we are contributing to maximising returns
and revolutionising business models to drive genuine loyalty
and growth,” shared Mitch Bittermann, Senior Vice President of
Commercials at Dubai CommerCity.
“Moreover, we are continuously working to improve the
quality of the free zone’s business environment and digital
infrastructure and toward embracing digital innovation through
different initiatives and solutions that support the transformation
of the digital economy.”
To assist the free zone in streamlining its digital operations,
Dubai CommerCity is also eager to increase the scope of its
partnership network. To launch the free zone’s blockchain
node, they worked with Dubai Customs. This significantly
reduces implementation costs for businesses and enables them
to take advantage of operational efficiencies during the import

Their methods include using recycled materials and
environmentally friendly building materials and implementing
international environmental standards for constructing light
industrial buildings and units. They are eager to make it easier
for electric vehicle adoption in the free zone. Mitch said, “By
providing reliable and efficient EV charging infrastructure, we
empower businesses and individuals to embrace greener mobility
options, contributing to reduced carbon emissions and a cleaner
environment.”
On A Constant Ladder Of Growth
They are committed to continuously developing their
infrastructure and facilities to ensure that clients and partners
enjoy state-of-the-art technology and the most significant
advantage on the market. “This year, we decided to redesign our
planned warehouse infrastructure to ensure it aligns with the
requirements of a B2C-friendly environment. This has allowed
us to optimize order fulfilment processes, implement advanced
tracking and delivery solutions, and establish seamless last-mile
delivery capabilities,” Mitch continued. While maintaining
efficiency and competitiveness in the dynamic logistics landscape,
they seek to meet individual clients’ and consumers’ expanding
needs by modifying their warehouse infrastructure. This
improved their ability to meet the expanding B2C (business-to-
consumer) needs.
Post COVID-19
The already booming digital commerce industry grew even
faster due to the COVID-19 pandemic. E-commerce in MENA
increased by 52 per cent in a single year, reaching a gross
merchandise value (GMV) of $22 billion in 2020. The pre-
lockdown estimates for the online retail market in the UAE and
Saudi Arabia combined was $7.5 billion. It increased to $11
billion by the end of March 2020. The Middle East’s e-commerce
market is experiencing significant growth and enormous
potential. It is projected to grow to a market size of $50 billion
by 2025.
Companies that put off digitization quickly shifted to
interacting with customers online. At the same time, this altered
consumer preferences and logistics infrastructure conventions,
fundamentally altering how economies function. This
technological change had the potential to create ecosystems that
drew small, regional businesses into the value chain.
On the other hand, COVID-19 also demonstrated the
importance of the physical store experience, with many retailers
experiencing significant revenue losses from the temporary
closure of stores. Mitch highlighted, “This confirmed the need
for diversity in the digital e-commerce platforms, with a blend
of the physical store experience. A seamless customer experience
is not about being everywhere for everything but using the
right blended channels and top-notch technologies for our user
satisfaction.” >>>

How does DP World Marine Services address the issue of
emissions from its operations?
Decarbonisation is a vital imperative for all the industries of
the world, key as it is to meet the obligations to limit global
warming. Firstly, to meet the targets set out in the 2015 Paris
Agreement, and then to achieve net zero carbon emissions by
2050, which are necessary to limit global warming to 1.5oC and
avoid the worst effects of climate change. Marine services are the
same as they represent a significant source of carbon emissions,
accounting for 3% of the total global carbon emissions, so
those of us who work in this sector need to act if we meet these
ambitious but necessary carbon targets.
We are committed to tackling this to keep trade flowing and
protect our natural world. DP World aims to reduce carbon
emissions by at least 28% by 2030, become carbon neutral by
2040 and reach net zero by 2050. DP World’s sustainability
strategy drives the commitment to achieving this, ‘Our World,
Our Future,’ which guides all business decisions to ensure the
company’s evolution benefits trade and the world’s communities
and natural environments.
Are there any targets or strategies in place to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions?
We plan to reach our sustainability objectives through various
approaches and initiatives. Firstly, we plan to reduce the number
of vessels on the water by improving our routing and scheduling
systems. Artificially intelligent software is already being used to
synchronise our services better and identify areas for fewer, more
efficient operations.
The broader DP World business is undergoing a global drive
to electrify all our ports and terminals, and, where possible, we
will be upgrading marine service equipment and vehicles as we
transition to electricity. This will help in reducing our diesel and
marine fuel consumption.

We plan to procure the electricity
for this plan from renewable
energy or carbon-neutral sources.
As well as our own wind turbines
and solar panels, we will invest
in local renewable energy sources
and guarantees of origin.
Where electrification isn’t
possible, we plan to procure low
or zero-carbon fuel to replace
diesel and marine energy. We
foresee ammonia as a dominant
fuel due to its carbon-free nature.
However, using ammonia as a fuel
requires rigorous safety measures
on vessels and during bunkering.
What measures does DP
World Marine Services take to
prevent pollution and ensure
the preservation of marine
ecosystems?
As we embark on the journey
to find viable, greener fuels for
industry, we are taking measures
to reduce our impact on the
natural world, mainly marine
ecosystems.
Our Actual Emission Tracker,
a tool that helps us calculate
greenhouse gas emissions at the
specific Twenty-foot Equivalent
Units (TEU) level, monitors
our impact and helps us reduce
services where possible.
Unifeeder has recently published its decarbonisation strategy,
in which they have outlined ambitious short-term goals.
These include enhancing their current fleet’s fuel efficiency,
expanding biofuels’ utilisation, and gradually introducing
new fuel-efficient vessels. The overarching goal is to decrease
greenhouse gas emissions by 25% before 2030.
However, at DP World, we recognise that it’s just as
essential to actively protect natural ecosystems as it is to
reduce our carbon footprint.
Further, as a business, we proudly sponsor the Earthshot
Prize. This sustainability initiative invests in groundbreaking
environmental solutions such as artificial coral reefs to
maintain habitats for aquatic species and act as natural flood
defences for coastal communities.
Does DP World Marine Services promote and support
sustainable practices among its clients and partners? If so,
how?
DP World won’t achieve these ambitious changes alone;
instead, it will require collaboration across the sector
to deliver real change across the industry. As a logistics
provider, we recognise our environmental standards’ impact
on our partners and customers. To address this, we work
collaboratively with them to reduce our impact and help them
implement greener solutions.
For example, our new direct freight service between the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iraq utilises the Arabian Gulf to bypass
the lengthy road journey that trucks and trailers use between the
two countries. Besides the great time and efficiency benefits, this
service offers significant sustainability advantages: By shipping
the trailer alone to Iraq, we remove thousands of trucks from the
roads yearly, helping us and our clients reduce CO2 emissions.
As well as incentivising customers to use greener fuels, solutions
such as these are valuable as they can work with existing
infrastructure to provide accessible green practices for all areas of
the world, ensuring a just transition towards net zero.
DP World was also one of the first companies in the UAE to
calculate and obtain external assurance of scope three emissions.
Our range three emissions reduction strategy heavily focuses
on engaging with our suppliers, including exploring insetting
opportunities.
Can you provide examples of any projects or collaborations DP
World Marine Services has undertaken to promote sustainability
in the maritime industry?
We aim to promote and accelerate sustainable operations
throughout the maritime industry. We recently signed a contract
with China’s shipbuilder Guangzhou Shipyard International to
construct a new generation of high-level, fuel-efficient ships that
reduce exhaust emissions.
In Europe, P&O Ferries’ new hybrid ship, P&O Pioneer,
recently made its maiden voyages, sailing tourist passengers and
vital trade business across the channel between Dover and Calais.
P&O Pioneer has been designed to reduce carbon emissions on
the UK’s most crucial trade route, which carries over £144bn of
goods by ferry alone. The ship is propelled by a combination of
traditional fuel and battery power and has been designed with
the capacity to become carbon neutral in future.

The ship is the world’s largest double-ended hybrid
ferry, with two bridges, meaning it does not need to
turn in port, saving fuel on every trip. This hybrid
ferry offers cleaner, greener cross-channel travel,
bringing a 40% reduction in carbon emissions
compared to the ship it replaced.
How does DP World Marine Services incorporate
renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind
power, into its operations?
Across DP World’s global network, we are installing
on-site renewable energy systems, including solar
panels and wind turbines, to generate a significant
portion of our electricity. Where we haven’t yet built
our solutions or need more energy than we can supply
by ourselves, we purchase renewable energy through
certificates of green energy from local grids.
We are also invested in implementing renewable
energy sources for our communities. Earlier this year,
the DP World team in EUROFOS built and delivered
the first of three floating windmill turbines, making
up the Mediterranean’s first renewable offshore wind
farm. Once completed, this farm will provide enough
electricity for 45,000 people annually.
Has DP World Marine Services implemented
innovative technologies or solutions to reduce its
carbon footprint or improve energy efficiency?
DP World’s commitment to sustainability is equally
applied on land as it is at sea, driving us to implement
energy-efficient practices and engage in sustainable
resource management. We acknowledge that our
actions are critical to our overall environmental
impact and strive to create an eco-friendly footprint in
all our activities.
We are phasing out diesel vessels and introducing
fuel-efficient and green vessels. We have also
implemented a digital monitoring system, which
Page 27
LOGISTICS NEWS ME | SEPTEMBER 2023 | 27
THE MARINE TITANS | JESPER KRISTENSEN
uses real-time data to monitor and
manage our energy consumption on
and offshore. Our Actual Emissions
Tracker improves our efficiency and
that of our partners, providing real-
time insight into how much carbon
certain operations emit and giving
data that helps us make greener
alternative solutions.
Does DP World Marine Services
engage in community outreach
or education programs to
raise awareness about marine
conservation and sustainability?
Community and water are two critical
pillars of DP World’s sustainability
strategy, Our World, Our Future. As
well as our business decisions, these
pillars guide DP World’s volunteering
efforts across our network, many
of which are focused on marine
conservation.
Our colleagues in Yarimca, Türkiye,
have been working closely with
schools as part of our Mind Your
Waste initiative, teaching future
generations how to reduce their waste
and plastic use – a significant threat
to marine environmental welfare.
This was launched alongside the Zero
Waste mobile phone game, a fun way
of teaching families how to minimise
waste and choose greener packaging.
Also, in Türkiye, we are working
with marine biologists to save the
yellow coral bridge in the Sea of
Marmara. This vast natural structure
can naturally sequester carbon and
provide a habitat for hundreds of
aquatic species. However, rising sea
temperatures are affecting the health
of the coral, so we’re funding research
to find ways of protecting the coral
and reducing ocean temperatures.
In India, Asia and South America,
DP World participates in regular
mangrove planting initiatives to create
natural flood prevention solutions
as sea levels rise and boost natural
carbon sequestering solutions.
As part of our commitment to reach
net zero in 2050a, we also have our
partnership with Mærsk Mc-Kinney
Møller Center for Zero Carbon
Shipping. The independent centre is
undertaking intensive research and
development to find practical ways
to decarbonise the maritime industry
through several global initiatives. Our
collaboration and contribution to this
partnership involves providing expert
insights about end-to-end supply
chains and demonstrating and testing
new solutions across the value chain
in a live setting to accelerate greener
trade transport.

Paying homage to distinguished Emirati
women working in the industry in
observance of Emirati Women’s Day
LEADING ALL
THE WAY
W
hen someone asks me about womanhood, the
first three words that come to my mind are
strength, respect, and courage. The biological, so-
cial, and cultural characteristics of being a wom-
an are collectively called womanhood. Correspondingly, there
are many facets to womanhood. Remembering that the idea
of femininity is nuanced and may be interpreted and experi-
enced in various contexts is critical. Furthermore, arguments
about gender identity and gender roles are developing, as are
cultural perceptions of being a woman. As a result, there is
an increasing appreciation for the variety of experiences and
identities that fall under the umbrella of “womanhood.”
I embraced the concept of womanhood over the years and
saw how strong my mother has been. And here we are, in
UAE, celebrating Emirati Women’s Day. The UAE celebrates
Emirati Women’s Day every year to commemorate and
acknowledge the accomplishments and efforts of Emirati
women to the growth and success of the country, which
we observed this year on August 28th, 2023. Emirati
Women’s Day may have a particular topic or focus each
year that emphasises a specific element of women’s efforts
or achievements. There may be seasonal variations in these
topics. This year’s theme, ‘We Collaborate for Tomorrow,’
was selected to support the goals of UAE President His
Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The UAE government has proven dedication to advancing
women’s chances and rights. In addition to putting laws
and measures in place to enhance women’s involvement
in numerous areas, it has nominated women to key
administrative positions.
In addition to honouring the accomplishments of Emirati
women, Emirati Women’s Day serves as a reminder of
the continuous efforts being made in the UAE to promote
gender equality and women’s empowerment. It demonstrates
the UAE’s commitment to building a more egalitarian and
inclusive society so that women may thrive and continue to
advance the country. Living in a country where considerable
attempts are made to advance women makes me extremely
happy. Here, we have acknowledged some of the most
significant Emirati women.

Now, she stands as an active contributor, a maker, and a vital
contributor to the most significant achievements, represented
in the most recent successes for the UAE, such as the launch of
the Hope Probe to Mars and the launch of Units 1 and 2 of the
Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the Arab world’s first peaceful
nuclear reactors.
“I proudly call myself a ‘Woman Engineer’ with the slogan of
‘Made in UAE’ amid such tremendous challenges facing the
region around how to ensure that women are empowered,”
adds Muneera.
Muneera has worked on critical projects during her leadership
role in the Trakhees Department, and she is still working
her way up to the following levels. She stressed that Emirati
women in the next years are determined to contribute to the
UAE’s success with a significant proportion of engineering,
science and technology students. “I’m confident that our role
models in these industries will be a vital pillar to shape the
career paths for the upcoming generations and to instil the
dedication to pursuing excellence in their fields. Certainly, I can
convey a message to future generations, particularly to females,
saying, “Your time has arrived, and I urge you to pursue your
dreams. Your remarkable presence is your strength, enabling
you to excel in every aspect confidently and ensuring your
empowerment. Seize it!”

Could you explain the technology or software systems that
Innova Supply Chain uses?
Innova is partnered with some of the leading supply chain
software companies globally. These companies lead or feature
in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for supply chain softwares. Any
business not currently taking advantage of the visibility and agil-
ity afforded by using a suitable solution is getting left behind in
terms of the future of the supply chain. With the right software,
using a custom app on your smartphone, you could view the
status, location, value and potential issues with your shipment/
delivery/warehouse/production. AI and Machine Learning will
help to automate routine operations in your business and suggest
the most effective action in case of any disruption to your supply
chain.
ISC can help businesses navigate current market solution of-
ferings and build a roadmap to future-proof the supply chain
Industry in the Middle East. We help prepare operations and
enterprises for digital solutions and guide them through imple-
mentation and beyond.
How does Innova Supply Chain incorporate sustainability
initiatives?
Innova has a sustainability policy that, in brief, encourages the
executive team to prioritise projects and clients committed to
sustainability and also allows the consultants and employees to
embrace and educate on more minor ways to be more eco-
friendly. We are paperless, and where possible, we recycle and
advocate for it; one small example is that we no longer carry
paper business cards. We regularly incorporate sustainability into
our networking events and invite sustainability experts and busi-
ness leaders to showcase initiatives and opportunities.
According to you, where do you see digital transformation
shaping the supply chain industry?
The single most significant impact of digital transformation is
visibility on the supply chain. Visibility leads to ‘predictability’
and ‘prevention’ of disruptions in the supply chain. Imagine
knowing the status of your operation in real-time, including
stock status, shipment location irrespective of size, forecasted
demand, production levels and outages, staffing, orders, and
warehouse space. Add that to the predicted impact on all those
aspects should there be a natural disaster, a pandemic, or a ma-
terials shortage, and you are getting close to the effect of digital
transformation. Supply Chain as an Industry has proven how
essential it is in the past three years, with food security and medi-
cal needs making our industry newsworthy and making what we
do part of everyday conversations. Even my Mum knows what
‘Supply Chain’ is now.

Saud adds, “Our district is divided into
six zones – base metals; machinery;
minerals; food and beverage; transport;
and chemicals – to create an integrated
network where businesses can cooperate
and grow. This allows our customers to
scale up operations by sharing resources,
information, and technology.”
Ultimately, this configuration develops
an integrated manufacturing network
where companies can collaborate
for materials and supplies. It aids in
removing supply chain uncertainties and
reaffirms Dubai’s position as a complete
manufacturing and logistics hub. In line
with the UAE’s broad sustainability goals,
the sector-specific zones also assist in
reducing the industry’s carbon footprint,
which is crucial to business growth.
Moreover, Dubai Industrial City is
vital in driving economic diversification
in Dubai and the UAE. “Our efforts are
aligned with the government’s vision to
establish the UAE as a global hub for
future industries. Dubai Industrial City
champions the Ministry of Industry
and Advanced Technology’s (MoIAT)
‘Make it in the Emirates’ initiative under
Operation 300bn, which encourages
investors, innovators, and developers to
manufacture products locally by taking
advantage of the country’s favourable
business climate and benefits,” says Saud.
To strengthen the emirate’s diversified
economic base, Dubai Economic
Agenda ‘D33’ is also encouraging new
growth opportunities for growth in the
manufacturing sector. During the rollout
of its ‘Make Brilliance’ global awareness
campaign in May 2023, Dubai Industrial
City established strategic alliances
with MoIAT, the Ministry of Climate
Change and Environment (MOCCAE),
Emirates Development Bank (EDB), and
Dubai’s Department of Economy and
Tourism (DET). The agreements widen
Dubai Industrial City’s alliances with
government organisations like EDB,
which in 2022 approved more than AED
513 million in financing for initiatives
and companies based in our region. To
create a more competitive market, EDB
has increased its commitment to give its
clients AED 1 billion over the next three
to five years.
“Such strategic government partnerships

and resources to enhance their operations,
innovate new projects, and further
diversify the UAE’s and Dubai’s industrial
sector,” highlights Saud. Besides helping to
create jobs, the presence of major regional
and international industrial conglomerates
like Unilever, Al Barakah Dates, Standard
Carpets, and Patchi has improved Dubai’s
and the UAE’s competitiveness on a global
scale.
Walking us through Dubai Industrial
City’s portfolio of existing and new
customers’ capacity to draw notable
players in various industries and reaffirm
its reputation as a thriving regional
industrial destination for the entire
manufacturing value chain. Saud shares,
“Standard Carpets Industries has operated
among the world’s largest carpet factories
in our district since 2014, manufacturing
high-quality products that reinforce
the ‘Made in UAE’ brand in more than
68 export markets. The company is
developing a 3 million sq. ft. facility
that will be one of the world’s largest
carpet factories and the region’s biggest
at Dubai Industrial City when it opens.”
Al Barakah Dates, which has specialised
sorting, washing, and packaging facilities
and cutting-edge production lines at
Dubai Industrial City, is planning to
enter the Indian market as part of the
UAE-India CEPA agreement, announced
in May 2022. Himalaya Wellness, which
also operates its Global Research Centre
at their sister district, Dubai Science Park,
is setting up a manufacturing plant to
produce a high volume of medicines to
export to over 100 countries. The ‘Made
in UAE’ brand mark is being strengthened
by such representation on a global scale.
Dubai Industrial City has experienced
tremendous growth in recent years,
bringing in AED 1 billion investments
from domestic and international
manufacturing companies by 2023.
“Furthermore, Dubai Industrial City
is an active proponent of future-focused
technologies and the Fourth Industrial
Revolution principles to reduce wastage
and efficiently develop sustainable
goods. In May 2023, we partnered
with MoIAT to deploy the Industrial
Technology Transformation Index in
the manufacturing sector, marking
an extension of our commitment to
accelerating decarbonisation, digitisation,
digital transformation, and Industry 4.0
in the UAE’s manufacturing sectors,”
comments Saud.
Customers are increasingly accepting
the benefits of automation and advanced
manufacturing methods. For instance,
Unilever runs MENA’s most extensive
personal care liquids manufacturing
facility at Dubai Industrial City. The
system uses a modular design to create
production lines that are 80 per cent
faster, shorter, and more responsive.
Silver Line Gate Group is constructing a
manufacturing, warehouse and corporate
office facility in the area. The 1.37 million
square foot facility will support markets
throughout the GCC, Africa, and
Southeast Asia by utilising revolutionary
technologies and fully automated
machinery and equipment.
Dubai Industrial City promotes
decarbonization and sustainability and
supports national and international
initiatives to lower manufacturing-
related carbon emissions. This includes
setting up solar panels to offer their
clients renewable energy sources and
cutting carbon emissions even further.
During the ‘Make Brilliance’
campaign launch in May 2023, Dubai
Industrial City and MOCCAE signed
a contract to advance industrial
decarbonization. Saud confirms, “Both
parties will collaborate on implementing
environmental laws and decrees and
promoting the UAE carbon registry
and crediting mechanism to support
decarbonisation efforts in the industrial
and logistics sectors under the UAE Net
Zero by 2050 strategy.”
Lastly, Dubai Industrial City’s long-
term goals and vision are focused on
further solidifying its position as the
region’s leading industrial and logistics
hub and attracting new partners to
sustain the growth of future industries
and economic diversification. “Our
world-class infrastructure and strategic
government partnerships will continue
to foster innovation and nurture an
environment conducive to collaboration
and knowledge sharing. We remain
committed to growing our district’s
pivotal role in driving Dubai’s and the
UAE’s long-term economic growth and
development,” concludes Saud.
“SUCH STRATEGIC GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIPS ENABLE
CUSTOMERS TO LEVERAGE OUR EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES
TO ENHANCE THEIR OPERATIONS, INNOVATE NEW PROJECTS,
AND FURTHER DIVERSIFY THE UAE’S AND DUBAI’S INDUSTRIAL
SECTOR.”

PANEL 2 | SUSTAINABILITY IN TRANSPORTATION/EV
S
ustainability in transportation
refers to initiatives and plans aimed
at reducing the environmental
impact of transportation systems
while promoting effectiveness, conser-
vation, and the use of renewable en-
ergy sources. As we all know, logistics
organisations that want to lessen their
environmental effect, run efficiently,
and satisfy the rising demand for
eco-friendly practices must consider
sustainability in transportation. Here
are some crucial elements and tactics
that logistics organisations may use to
adopt transportation sustainability:
Fleet Management:
Efficient Vehicles: Purchasing fuel-
efficient, low-emission automobiles is a
wise investment. To cut pollution, think
about switching to trucks powered by
natural gas, electric, or hybrids.
Route optimisation: Use route plan-
ning and optimisation tools to save
emissions, cut fuel use, and minimise
empty miles.
Regular Maintenance: Maintaining
the fleet to ensure the cars are running
as efficiently as possible, lowering
emissions and the need for replace-
ments.
Alternative Fuels:
Biofuels: Investigate the usage of bio-
fuels derived from sustainable sources
to propulsion cars.
Hydrogen Fuel Cells: Investigate using
hydrogen fuel cells to provide zero-
emission transportation options.
Consolidating Cargo:
When it’s feasible, combine shipments
to lessen the amount of traffic and
emissions.
Last-Mile Solutions:

last-mile delivery alternatives for met-
ropolitan areas such as electric vans,
cargo bikes, or micro-mobility.
Bringing a few insights forward from
our panel discussion:
1. How is the Middle Eastern land-
scape developing for e-mobility?
As the Middle East works to lessen
its environmental impact, diversify its
energy sources, and promote envi-
ronmentally friendly transportation
options, the region is seeing significant
e-mobility (electric mobility) advance-
ments.
“Businesses and governmental
organisations are electrifying their
fleets frequently. For instance, many
delivery and taxi services in the area
are switching to electric cars to cut
expenses and emissions,” comments
Shailen Shukla, Chief Logistics Officer
at PicTruc.
Additionally, with strong government
support, several Middle Eastern na-
tions have started ambitious e-mobility
initiatives. For instance:
> UAE: By 2030, the UAE wants
42,000 electric vehicles (EVs)
to be on the road. Particularly in
Dubai, parking and charging for
electric cars are now free.
> Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has
been working to build charging
infrastructure nationwide to reach
its goal of 1.5 million electric vehi-
cles by 2030.
> Jordan: To encourage the use
of electric vehicles, Jordan has
reduced registration costs and
implemented tax exemptions.
“While much has been accomplished,
there are still many obstacles to over-
come, such as additional infrastruc-
ture development, overcoming range
anxiety, and ensuring that electric
vehicles are accessible and affordable.
But the Middle East is actively embrac-
ing e-mobility to lessen its reliance on
fossil fuels, cut emissions, and develop
a more sustainable and environmen-
tally friendly transportation system,”
comments Shailen.
What are some of the challenges
the EV Charging Infrastructure is
facing?
“The UAE’s push for Electric Vehicle
adoption hinges on successfully ad-
dressing challenges associated with
charging infrastructure in many ways,”
said Vinay Premachandran, Sales Di-
rector at Powertech Mobility and COO
of Powertech Group of Companies. The
different ways are:
> Infrastructure Development: A
comprehensive charging network
is required, especially between Abu
Dhabi and Dubai.
> Standardization: A unified ap-
proach across different EV brands
is necessary to simplify charg-
ing for all users. Ensuring all the
charging infrastructure caters to
CCS2 (Combined Charging System
2) standards rather than a multi-
standard is advisable.
> Electricity Demand: Increased
EV adoption means greater power
demand. Grid enhancements and
decentralized renewable energy
installations such as containerized
Energy Storage Solutions or ESS
can help manage this surge.
> Energy Source: For EVs to be
genuinely sustainable, they should
primarily be powered by renewa-
bles. Continued solar and Hydro/
Wind energy expansion in the UAE
is essential.
> Public Awareness: Educational
campaigns can demystify EV usage
and charging, aiding adoption.
> Climate: Given the harsh environ-
ment, EV infrastructure must be
robust, and EV models should be
optimized for the region’s condi-
tions.
> Real Estate Constraints: Space-
saving solutions like vertical charg-
ing stations may be vital in dense
urban areas.
> Integration with Smart Grids: Link-
ing EV stations to smart grids aids
in energy optimization.
How can various partnerships accel-
erate the adoption of transportation
solutions?
As a tech-driven company, CAFU
continuously seeks to challenge the
status quo and exceed its custom-
ers’ expectations. “In addition to our
on-demand refuelling and mobile EV
charging solution, we have offerings to
include a range of convenient services
such as mobile car wash and other car
maintenance options,” shared Alaa El-
Huni, Chief Business Officer at CAFU.

To enable the growth of their business,
they have always been committed to
fostering the right strategic partner-
ships with those who possess a deep
understanding of the renewable energy
and mobility sectors and share their
passion for shaping the
future of these industries.
“Fostering partnerships
is when opportunities
arise. To truly accelerate
towards the future of
mobility, we believe col-
laborations will be crucial
to catapult us forward,”
Alaa continued.
They are proud to be a
platform that offers vari-
ous services to car own-
ers and operators, and as
such, they hope to attract
more producer-partners to
join their forum and offer
their exciting and con-
venient services to their
growing user base.
“At CAFU, we are driven
by our vision to disrupt
traditional models and en-
hance the lives of our cus-
tomers through innovative
solutions,” said Alaa.
What are some of the trends that are
being witnessed in the sustainable
transportation industry?
The transportation industry is at an
inflexion point, deeply influenced by
a greater focus on sustainability and
efficiency. “At Yango, we are keenly
aware of the role transportation plays
in global carbon emissions—account-
ing for around 24% according to the
International Energy Agency,” added
Shashi Shekar Singh, Director of New
Markets at Yango GCC. Consequently,
they are utilizing AI and machine learn-
ing algorithms to optimize routes and
reduce drivers’ dry runs, thus reducing
their environmental footprint and sav-
ing costs. “We’re not just stopping at
fuel optimization; our long-term plans
include exploring the feasibility of inte-

In line with UAE’s government initiatives, 2023 is the Year of
Sustainability and its goal of reducing carbon emissions by
40% by 2030. Coupled with mobility as a Mobility as a Service
(MaaS) platforms, consumers can seamlessly choose the
most efficient route using a mix of transportation methods—
e-scooter, a shared ride, or public transport—further reducing
their carbon footprint.
Battery technology is another area where rapid advance-
ments are occurring. Sodium-ion batteries, which are lower
cost and have a lower energy density, and hydrogen fuel cells
that produce no emissions and have equivalent range and
performance to gasoline counterparts, offer disruptive alter-
natives to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Shashi contrib-
uted, “These new technologies could reduce the overall cost
of EVs, making them accessible to a broader audience, as
sales in this sector have more than tripled in three years.”
How do you see a sustainable future in logistics?
The logistics industry in the Middle East is swiftly embracing
electric mobility to enhance its sustainability efforts. With the
growing emphasis on reducing carbon emissions and envi-
ronmental impact, one is witnessing increased investments
by critical logistics players like the DHL Group in electric
vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions to lower
operational costs and meet stringent environmental regula-
tions. This transition is driving innovation in electric vehicle
technology and infrastructure, paving the way for a greener
and more sustainable future in logistics.
“As we march towards our goal of zero carbon emissions
by 2050, DHL remains committed to serving our customers
with smart digital solutions that improve sustainability and
efficiency. Our investment in the UAE’s first electric truck, the
Mercedes-Benz eActros 300, as well as the Volvo Electric
FM Truck, is an additional step in the direction of pioneering
innovative solutions which help us achieve our ambitious
sustainability goals and create unique solutions for our
valued customers,” explains Tobias Maier, CEO of Saloodo!
Middle East and Africa.
They are proud to put the vision into practice, and they are
doing this by committing to a set greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions target by 2030 in line with the Paris Agreement,
investing EUR 7 billion to reach it. This investment will be used
to increase its use of sustainable aviation fuels, design all
new buildings to be carbon neutral, offer a comprehensive
portfolio of green products and electrify 60% of its last-mile
delivery by 2030. DHL already has over 30,000 e-vehicles for
pickup and delivery in operation and aims to provide sustain-
able alternatives for 100% of all core products and solutions.
Sustainability Innovation Forum 2023 was hosted by BNC
Publishing on August 31, 2023, at Sofitel Dubai The Palm.

SUSTAINABILITY INNOVATION AWARDS 2023
LNME
Sustainability Innovation Awards 2023 is one of the leading events applauding the
achievements of the region’s sustainability initiatives and projects from all sectors in the
Middle East. The awards strive to recognise individual excellence, corporate strengths, and
project success from all sectors. Companies are invited to nominate the people, projects, and
initiatives of which they are most proud of.
With countries in the region having an oil-dependent economy, a strong revival in the oil &
gas sector became the priority for several nations, leading to a temporary shift in focus away
from renewables. Factors such as various government’s plans to diversify the energy mix and
increase investments in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives are expected to be
significant contributors to the growth of the market. However, the increasing penetration of
natural gas for power generation purposes, along with its lower prices is expected to hinder
the market growth during the forecast period.
The UAE is expected to witness a significant growth in the Middle-East renewable energy
and sustainability market during the forecast period, owing to the upcoming projects and
government targets.
The event saw companies from UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and more, winning various awards at
the awards ceremony.

ith the primary brands JOST,
ROCKINGER, TRIDEC, and
Quicke, JOST is a leading global
manufacturer and supplier of
safety-relevant systems for the
commercial vehicle industry.
The extensive product line is divided into
systems for use in agriculture and on the
road under the JOST umbrella brand.
The JOST brand has a long history in
the Middle Eastern market. JOST widened
its global network by establishing JOST
Middle East Fzco in Dubai in November
2022. With the site in Dubai, there is a
local branch that can respond quickly
and is always open for clients and their
expanding needs.
With sales and manufacturing facilities
in 26 different countries across six
continents, they support all significant
end users in the commercial vehicle
industry and all major truck, trailer
and agricultural tractor manufacturers
globally. Around the world, JOST
currently has over 3,600 employees.
What types of transportation services
does JOST provide?
JOST Middle East Fzco sells proven JOST
products, such as fifth-wheel couplings,
also available for heavy-duty applications.
A smart innovation
is the SKS Sensor-
Coupling-System
with a remote
display that
allows simple, safe
coupling. Using the
remote control unit
in the cab, the lock
of the fifth wheel
coupling can be
opened simply at the
push of a button.
Our landing
gear has been
tested millions
of times in daily
use, in addition to
being incredibly
strong and diverse.
Customers in the
Middle East can
also choose the
Modul E-Drive,
an electric landing
gear. It is beneficial when it is difficult
to access the landing gear and when the
trailer needs to be coupled and decoupled
frequently.
Additionally, the Middle East offers
trailer axles. The weight-optimized axle
DCA WEIGHTMASTER PLUS is the
newest axle in the portfolio. Developing
the lightest axle in its class was driven by
the need to reduce emissions, conserve
resources, and increase efficiency. The
entire axle’s optimised structure lowers the
weight of the trio by 51 kg.
JOST also provides
cutting-edge assistance
systems for improved
efficiency and safety in
transport services. For
instance, the fifth wheel
coupling includes the King
Pin Finder camera. Driving
backwards provides the
perfect opportunity to view
the coupling situation from
a live camera image inside
the driver’s cabin, greatly
simplifying the coupling
procedure.
What technology or
systems does JOST employ
to enhance supply chain
efficiency?

departments for the various
product groups and regions
of JOST. This is yet another
crucial element in ensuring that
our customer’s demands are
met on time.
Can you provide details
about JOST’s warehousing
and distribution
capabilities?
JOST has a worldwide
network of his own as well
as numerous affiliates. We
keep making investments
in the infrastructure for
warehousing. We also
collaborate with devoted
dealers and distributors in
every continent to guarantee
a high service level and quick
lead times. To almost every
country globally, JOST can
provide every shipment
service to our clients via air,
ocean, road, and express.
We could also use our
network’s external logistics
infrastructure if necessary.
What sustainability
initiatives or practices does
JOST have in place?
The United Nations
adopted 17 global goals for
sustainable development
as part of its Agenda
2030 in September 2015.
These goals are centred on
pursuing economic growth
that also considers social
and environmental factors.
JOST is firmly committed
to implementing this agenda
and will do so by focusing
on sustainability issues and
using its corporate strategy.

JOST relies on environmentally friendly products, such as those
that are weight-optimized. Lighter products guarantee lower
emissions and greater transport capacities.
How does JOST ensure the security and safety of transported
goods?
Best practice knowledge, tested ideas, and potent logistics
capabilities support our work. The costs are regularly reviewed,
sustainability is improved, and safety standards are maintained.
For additional improvements, we also take customer feedback
into account. Trials of new products or transport methods’
packaging and shipping are frequently conducted. If necessary,
we collaborate with experts in shipping and packaging to ensure
the best and most effective way to deliver our products to our
customers or suppliers. Moreover, our logistics and warehouse
staff receive regular training from outside transport security
companies to maintain constant high quality and adhere to the
most recent standards.
What are the key factors that differentiate JOST from its
competitors?
Market Leader & Global Presence: Since founding in 1952, JOST
has established itself as a global leader in producing commercial
vehicle components.
Quality, availability in OEM and aftermarket, price
performance, logistics services, and full-service provider are
among the qualities of a full-service provider. Customers,
retailers, and automakers worldwide demand complete services
and products free of defects. Therefore, it is crucial that JOST’s
goods and services are dependable and high calibre. A reliable
global supply chain is also essential for success. JOST is less
vulnerable to changes in the market or instances when supply
chains fail because it has local operations for local customers and
a global organisation. The engineering expertise remains close to
the needs of the customers.
How does JOST stay up to date on industry regulations and
compliance?
JOST collaborates with organisations like the VDA, DIN/
ISO, CLEPA, SAE, or AEF and is actively involved in research,
standardisation, regulations, and legislation. We actively support
our memberships, and they give us access to the committees’
management processes. This offers a clear perspective on current
and upcoming issues.
