I've always firmly trusted our
limitless abilities as humans to
achieve anything we truly set our
minds to. The mystery behind
unlocking that power lies in the
thought itself. Without that idea
spark, we are confined by external
factors—our environment,
circumstances, and luck. However,
when we actively pursue what we
believe is possible, we transcend
those limitations. Even if we don’t
fully reach our vision, we get
closer to that goal, proving that
an idea's power can propel us
beyond our perceived boundaries.
Now is the ideal moment to
harness the vast resources at our
disposal. We are more fortunate
than ever, with access to tools
that can empower, guide, and
serve us. The world is more
connected and evolving faster
than ever before, presenting
endless opportunities for
growth and success.
In this issue, we highlight the
inspiring stories of women
working in the logistics industry,
as we take a moment to reflect
on Emirati Women’s Day,
celebrated on August 28th. The
voices in these stories offer
not only inspiration but also
a deeper understanding of
the world around us, sparking
greater growth and ambition.
This chapter is all about
pursuing our goals and realising
our dreams. Everything we
seek in life is within our
reach—through our actions, our
mindset, and most importantly,
the power of our thoughts.

NMDC GROUP AWARDED CONTRACT WORTH MORE THAN USD 200 MILLION
BY ADNOC
N
MDC Group has secured a contract worth more
than USD 200 million from the Abu Dhabi
National Oil Company (ADNOC) for crucial
marine dredging works in the pioneering Ruwais
LNG Project. This project introduces the first
LNG export facility in the Middle East and Africa
to use clean energy, showcasing NMDC Group’s capabilities in
handling significant marine infrastructure projects and their
dedication to advancing vital energy projects globally.
The contract encompasses extensive dredging operations,
involving the removal of approximately 15 million cubic
meters of material across a 5-kilometer channel with
a 245-meter width. NMDC Group will also install vital
navigational aids, ensuring safe maritime access to the new
LNG facility.
Located in Al Ruwais Industrial City in Abu Dhabi, ADNOC’s
low-carbon LNG project will feature two natural gas
liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 9.6 million
metric tons per annum. The facility’s use of renewable
energy-powered electric motors positions it among the
world’s lowest-carbon-intensity LNG plants.
Eng. Yasser Zaghloul, NMDC Group CEO, said: “Securing this
contract for ADNOC’s
pioneering LNG project
underscores NMDC Group’s
exceptional capabilities in
delivering complex marine
infrastructure. This project,
which harnesses clean
energy, aligns perfectly
with our commitment
to sustainability—a
value deeply rooted in
our corporate culture.
It strengthens our
longstanding partnership
with ADNOC and
highlights our dedication
to advancing the UAE’s
energy sector.”
“We are determined to
execute this project with
the utmost precision,
adhering to the highest
standards of safety,
quality, and environmental
responsibility. Our
innovative approach and
technical expertise will be instrumental in bringing this low-
carbon LNG facility to fruition, significantly enhancing the
UAE’s standing in the global energy landscape.” he added.
Eng. Niels de Bruijn, NMDC Dredging & Marine CEO, said: “We
are honored to be entrusted with this critical marine dredging
project by ADNOC. Our team’s extensive experience in
executing large-scale dredging operations, coupled with our
state-of-the-art fleet and innovative solutions, will ensure
the successful delivery of this project. We are committed
to supporting the UAE’s vision of becoming a global leader
in low-carbon LNG production, and this project marks a
significant step towards achieving that goal.”
This strategic project enables NMDC Group to play a crucial
role in expanding the UAE’s LNG production capacity,
reinforcing the nation’s position as a key global supplier of
natural gas. It aligns with the UAE’s commitment to meeting
rising global energy demands while prioritizing sustainability
and minimizing carbon emissions.
Earlier in June, NMDC Energy, a subsidiary of NMDC Group, in
collaboration with Technip Energies, was awarded a USD 5.5
billion contract by ADNOC for the engineering, procurement,
and construction (EPC) of the LNG Growth Project.

FEDEX INTEGRATES WHATSAPP NOTIFICATIONS IN SAUDI ARABIA
F
ederal Express Corporation,
the world’s largest
express transportation
company, has enhanced its
FedEx® Delivery Manager
International (FDMi)
e-commerce solution with delivery
notifications on WhatsApp, available
in both English and Arabic, for
package recipients in Saudi Arabia.
FDMi is an interactive e-commerce
delivery solution that provides
customizable delivery options and
alerts. E-tailers using the solution
can offer their customers the ability
to choose the timing and location of
their deliveries to fit their schedule –
and change the delivery address when
the shipment is in transit – giving
them extra flexibility at no extra cost.
“The FDMi service enhancement
facilitates interactive communication
for package recipients, providing them
with updates from pickup to delivery.
This enhancement underscores our
continuous efforts to streamline
and simplify the last-mile delivery
process, ensuring convenience for
consumers,” said Abdulrahman Al-
Mubarak, managing director of FedEx
Middle East operations.
Recipients expecting inbound
deliveries receive a WhatsApp
notification from FedEx upon
shipment pickup. FedEx uses a META-
verified WhatsApp business account
which helps recipients mitigate
online risks, such as WhatsApp scams
perpetrated using the FedEx brand.
Recipients can message and chat
with FedEx directly in the language of
their choice, as well as access tracking
status and redirect options with
the click of a button directly in the
WhatsApp chat window.
The integration of WhatsApp into
FDMi offers considerable benefits to
all participants in the e-commerce
ecosystem. In an increasingly
competitive online marketplace,
FDMi helps e-tailers, especially SMEs,
provide a differentiated service offer.
Customers get more peace of mind
through the traceability of their
package on their mobile devices,
as well as an enhanced online
shopping experience. It also helps
FedEx minimize delivery attempts to
recipients who may not be present at
the registered delivery address.
The WhatsApp instant messaging
social media platform has more than
2 billion active monthly users globally,
with over 22 million users in the
Kingdom, making it one of the most
popular communication apps in the
country. The integration of WhatsApp
into FDMi enhances its practicality as
a solution for e-tailers to offer to their
shoppers.

MARSH LAUNCHES USD 50 MILLION PORT BLOCKAGE
INSURANCE FACILITY
M
arsh, the world’s leading insurance
broker and risk advisor and a business
of Marsh McLennan, announced in
August the launch of a first of its
kind USD 50 million port blockage
insurance facility, covering shipping
ports and terminals around the world.
Created by Marsh following the collapse of the
Francis Scott Key Bridge and subsequent disruption
at the Port of Baltimore, the insurance facility can
be purchased independently or used to supplement
existing cover.
Available to Marsh
clients globally, it is
specifically designed
to provide clients
with cover for loss of
revenue caused by
third-party accidents
such as a vessel sinking
in a channel, a vessel
impact resulting in a
waterway closure, or a
natural catastrophe.
The facility is backed
by a panel of Lloyd’s
of London and London
market A+ rated
insurers, and offers
capacity of USD 50
million, with higher
limits being available
on a case-by-case
basis.
Port blockage is a
growing concern for
businesses operating in
the maritime industry
and can result in
significant disruptions
to global supply chains
and loss of revenue.
The facility’s wording
can be customised
to meet the specific
needs of individual
clients, meaning that
coverage can be aligned to specific risk exposures
and operational requirements.
Commenting on the launch, Louise Nevill, CEO, UK
Marine, Marsh Specialty, said: “Port blockages around
the world are increasing with frequency and severity,
and are resulting in debilitating consequences for
businesses involved in international trade. As global
trade continues to expand, this new facility offers
clients a rapidly available layer of insurance cover to
protect operations and recovery in the event of port
and terminal disruptions.”

As part of NEOM, we have a clear
mandate on sustainability. When
completed, the port will operate at
net zero-carbon emissions powered
by 100% renewable energy, including
self-generated solar. All of the material
excavated from the basin dredging will
be reused in regional construction.
Container Terminals 1 and 2
The ambitious plans include a new
container terminal and an expansion
of the general cargo terminal. The first
terminal, coming online in 2025, will
have an initial throughput capacity
of 1.5 million twenty-foot-equivalent
(TEU) containers per annum, with the
ability to expand further. The second
container terminal will have a designed
capacity of up to 10 million TEUs,
based on market demand.
General Cargo
Our General Cargo services are
increasing as NEOM construction
expands. Our general and project cargo
area is currently 200,000 sq m and
we are adding another 90,000 sq m
by the end of the year. In parallel, we
are expanding our general and project
cargo tonnage capacity to welcome up
to 30 million tonnes in future.
ROPAX
We expect to handle 4.5 million tonnes
of ROPAX in 2024 and 200,000
passengers. We provide daily ferry
services to Safaga, upholding the age-
old trade route across the Red Sea to
Egypt.
The port also has significant future
reserve design capacity for container
handling, general cargo and bulk
shipping.
Serving NEOM, the region and beyond
One of Oxagon’s key partners is NEOM
Green Hydrogen
Company, which

once operational
in 2026. We are
handling regular
shipments of
construction
material,
including wind
turbines.
Modular housing
units are being shipped through
the port to meet the growing
accommodation demands of NEOM.
A major carrier, G2Ocean, has been
delivering modules twice a month from
Malaysia for the past 12 months.
A leading steel water pipe
manufacturing company from India
is shipping 12,000 pipes to NEOM
through the port. Each 18-meter-long
pipe is being used to support NEOM’s
new utility infrastructure. We use a
specialized pipe vacuum lifter to move
550 pipes per shipment, allowing for
faster, safer and less labor-intensive
operations.
The rising demand for cargo as NEOM
comes online has seen an increasing
number of ships calling at the port,
including two of the world’s largest
shipping lines – MSC and CMA-CGM. We
have also announced a common feeder
service by Folk Maritime, a new Saudi
owned carrier. These services offer
direct connectivity between NEOM and
international trade routes via Jeddah.
We’re supporting our partners not just
with their complex cargo needs, but
on their sustainability ambitions too.
One of the benefits of adding new port
capacity to this region is the ability to
bring goods closer to their end-use,
reducing road miles, freight costs, and
CO2 emissions. In fact, our calculations
show that shipping goods to Port of
NEOM rather than taking them via road,
from Jeddah, saves one tonne of CO2
per container.
Maritime Progress
This area of Saudi Arabia has a long
and proud maritime history. We are
building on this history, through our
development program and our work
with partners in NEOM and the Tabuk
region.
As we develop, Port of NEOM’s
impact on the regional and global
trade landscape will continue to
grow. Enhancing connectivity to
international markets will further
boost the region’s competitiveness and
contribute to economic growth. With
its strategic location on the Red Sea
and at the crossroads of international
trading routes, the port opens up new
opportunities and positions NEOM as a
key player in the global supply chain.
On the cusp of a new era for maritime
progress, Port of NEOM will act not
only as an economic enabler, but
will employ the latest sustainable
technologies positioning NEOM,
and this region, as a leading hub for
shipping and logistics.

INTERVIEW
Tell us about your new plans in Saudi Arabia.
As a Group, which includes Cathay Pacific and HK Express, we
currently fly to more than 80 passenger destinations across
the globe, a figure which will rise to 100 within 2025. So far in
2024, the group has announced 12 new destinations, including
Riyadh to Hong Kong commencing on 28 October 2024. We
will operate three return flights per week using our state-
of-the-art A350-900 aircraft, featuring Business, Premium
Economy and Economy cabins.
In addition to Cathay Pacific’s new passenger service, Cathay
Cargo currently operates weekly freighter flights between
Hong Kong and Riyadh.
What impact will this step have?
This new route will further enhance connectivity, trade and
cultural exchange between our home hub – Hong Kong, and
the countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. We
currently serve 21 destinations in 14 participating countries.
Our route expansion to Riyadh, enables us to further
strengthen Hong Kong’s status as an international aviation
hub, and enhance air connectivity between the Middle East
and Asia. The strengthening of our services to and from
Hong Kong to Riyadh enables us to cater to this important
region’s growing travel and trade appetite, in line with the
Kingdom’s vision 2030 and the Belt and Road Initiative. We
play an important role in connecting Asia and the Middle
East; whether it is for trade and economic development or
promoting travel and tourism.
What trends do you see shaping the future of the aviation
industry, and how is Cathay Pacific adapting its strategies
to align with these developments?
The aviation industry is continuously working towards
innovations, from technological advancements to state-of-
the-art inflight experiences and dining, all with a focus on
sustainable aviation initiatives.
At Cathay, we commit to seizing new opportunities to drive
growth. Over the course of the next seven years, we have
committed more than HKD 100 billion in investments to
contribute to the Three-Runway System and Hong Kong as an
international aviation hub. This includes investments in our
fleet, cabin products, lounges, and advancements in digital
and sustainability leadership innovations. Cathay is entering
an exciting new era, underpinned by our determination to
become one of the world’s greatest service brands

ALTITUDE OF AMBITION
In what cutting-edge ways is Cathay Pacific leveraging
technology and innovation to stay ahead in the aviation
industry?
We continue to invest in building a seamless customer
experience throughout their journey, from the moment
they book their ticket to baggage collection. Our aim is to
transform into a digital leader famous for its strong digital
culture and capabilities. Our digital strategy is underpinned
by our focus on customer centricity, with a framework
built around data analytics, technological innovation and
company-wide transformation. We have achieved significant
success in these areas, including being recognised with a
number of industry awards.
Additionally, we have been exploring
the use of generative AI to elevate
customer experiences. For instance,
we have redefined the inflight
shopping experience through our
Cathay Shop, where customers can
shop inflight and have their products
delivered to their doorsteps. Another
offering is our seamless connections
to the Greater Bay Area, where we
provide convenient and efficient
ways to travel between Hong Kong
International Airport and the Greater
Bay Area. Customers can seamlessly
connect to the region’s major ports via high-speed ferry
transfers, with their bags checked through to their final
destination. Moreover, a frequent schedule of coaches and
limousines provided offers an extra layer of convenience.
In terms of sustainability, how is Cathay Pacific mitigating
environmental effects?
Cathay is a leading voice in the transition towards
renewables. We launched Asia’s first major Corporate SAF
Programme to promote the development and adoption of
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Cathay is boldly breaking
ground in SAF innovation and adoption. On top of uplifting
SAF at Hong Kong International Airport for the first time in
2023, we successfully refuelled our first commercial overseas
flights with SAF in Singapore, Los Angeles and Amsterdam.
Cathay knows that the journey towards decarbonisation is
a long road, and not one that can be flown alone. We have
signed MOUs and formed coalitions with various corporate
partners for the same goal. Further, Cathay has committed to
a decarbonisation roadmap, and by 2030, we will improve our
carbon intensity by 12% from 2019 levels, as well as target 10%
SAF for our total fuel consumption. Cathay is the first airline
in Asia to set such a hard target.
By 2050, Cathay is committed to achieving net-zero carbon
emissions in its operations. Moreover, we have set a clear
roadmap for single-use plastics and waste reduction. We are
dedicated to transitioning towards more sustainable use of
resources and circular solutions, with the aim of reducing
cabin waste by 30% from the 2019 baseline by 2030.
What is your vision for Cathay Pacific in the next period?
Looking ahead, we are more committed than ever to
contributing to our city’s success as an international aviation
hub, and being a positive force that moves people forward
in life. Cathay is entering an exciting new era underpinned
by our determination to become one of the world’s greatest
service brands.

Reducing the carbon footprint in ocean freight: The company
offers eco-delivery ocean services in collaboration with its
preferred ocean carriers.
Providing LEED certified storage solutions: The company’s
storage facilities are designed with sustainability in mind.
In addition, the company is committed to minimizing its
environmental impact through digital solutions that reduce
paper usage and enhance energy efficiency across its
operations.
Future Prospects
Over the next five years, Al Sharqi Shipping is thrilled to
expand its product range by developing tailored industrial
supply chain solutions within the UAE. The company also
plans to extend its footprint across the GCC, positioning itself
as a pan-GCC brand through strategic partnerships and joint
trade lane solutions. By leveraging experience and expertise

“My greatest source of inspiration is my mother. Despite
the long daily commute and sometimes tiring days, I am
constantly motivated by her ability to juggle multiple
roles—wife, mother, student, and instructor. Her example
has profoundly influenced how I approach my own
responsibilities,” she shares.
Regarding Drydocks World, the company is aimed at
supporting and empowering women. An example includes the

shift towards digitalization, with a focus on integrating
technologies to convert physical assets into virtual
assets. This transformation offers numerous benefits,
such as improved convenience, accessibility, and
sustainability, which are reshaping industry practices
and enhancing operational efficiency.
When you finish work, give your personal life your full
attention. Don’t think about your work tasks or the
presentation due next week. There will be time for that
the next morning! Creating that balance is crucial for
both your professional and personal life. I truly believe
that a drained person never succeeds.
Yes, Drydocks World has several initiatives designed
to support women in here at the workplace.
The “MentorHer” program provides mentorship
opportunities for women in engineering and other
technical roles. Additionally, events such as the
recent female bowling tournament organized by DP
World offer networking and community-building
opportunities for women in the industry.
In the maritime industry, there are usually people from
so many different backgrounds and cultures. While it
can be a positive thing, don’t let that make you forget
your own values! Respect your values enough to make
everyone around you respect them as well.
Emirati women in the maritime industry bring
a unique blend of passion, creativity, and STEM
expertise. Their contributions, whether through
innovative engineering solutions or steadfast
dedication, play a crucial role in advancing the sector
and supporting the broader objectives of the UAE.
I am currently learning how all different disciplines are
interlinked for the success of projects in the maritime
industry. My next goals include digging deeper into
engineering management and project management,
and to be part of major projects that contribute to the
success of Drydocks World and UAE.

shift. Additionally, the rapid growth of e-commerce is
sparking innovations in last-mile delivery, opening up new
career paths in logistics planning and operations. These
trends are collectively paving the way for a more inclusive
and dynamic future in the sector.
Regarding 7X’s efforts to empower women, Laila explains: “At
7X, we are committed to empowering women through various
initiatives. We focus on nurturing future leaders by offering
comprehensive leadership development programs, including
targeted workshops and training sessions that equip women
with the skills and confidence to advance in their careers.”
7X also prioritises work-life balance with its flexible work
policies, remote work options, extended maternity leave, and
an on-site nursery, helping women manage both professional
and personal responsibilities effectively.
At 7X, Laila is proud of having chaired the Women’s Council
in 2023, where she played a key role with the council’s
distinguished members in reinforcing their commitment to
fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment within
the organisation. This experience was not only significant for
her personally but also an important step in 7X’s ongoing
commitment to empower women across all levels of the
business.
The UAE has long supported the inclusion of women in the
workforce, thanks to the visionary leadership of the nation.
Women in logistics are ideally positioned to support this
vision by driving innovation, enhancing efficiency, and
bringing diverse perspectives to the industry.
Throughout her years at 7X, Laila has witnessed how women
in leadership roles have been instrumental in optimising
operations and achieving strategic goals. She believes and
always says: “empowered women, empower other women.”
Her advice to young Emirati women who are thinking about
pursuing a career in logistics is to be bold and take the
initiative and assert their presence in this field. The logistics
sector offers a wealth of opportunities, especially with
the advancements in technology, whether in supply chain
management, digital facilitation, or finance, the sector needs
professionals with diverse skills.
“If you are passionate and committed, there is no limit to
what you can achieve. Work hard, stay enthusiastic, and
remember that nothing is impossible. Your dedication and
effort will open doors and pave the way for your success,” She
says.
Her next primary goal is to continue driving innovation
and excellence across the diverse areas within the logistics
industry from supply chain management, finance, and
